Hindu Astrology has been practice for thousands of years; it is based on sound principles of astronomy; the Predictive
astrology gained popularity and is in wide use. Here we present the famous book JATAKA CHANDRIKA, which
describes some important rules of predictive astrology. Here we give the sanskrit verses (slokams) and their English
meaning:
1. SIDHANTAM UPANISHADAM SIDHAANTHAM PARAMESTHINAHA
SHONAADHARAM MAHATH KINCHI DVEENA DHARAM UPAASMAHEA.
The Mother-Goddess Sri Saraswathi is the presiding diety of all Upanishads, (well established theories of all Sciences),
embodiment of Brahma siddhanthams, and playing sweet celestial music on Veena (musical instrument). She is
surrounded by celestial glow and glory. We prostrate before Her.
2. PHALAANI NAKSHATHRA DASAA PRAKAARENA VIVRUNMAHEA,
VAYAM PAARASAREEM HORAA MANUSMRUTHYA YADHAMATHIHI.
We now explain the slokams written by ancient sage (Maharshi) PARASARA explaining Hora phalams (predictions) ;
these scientific methods based on NAKSHATHRA (stars), planets, lifeperiods (dassas) that come in the life span of a
person, as explained by ancient scholar Manindha.
3. BUDHAIRBHAVAADAYA SSARVEJNEA YAASSAAMANYA SASTHRATAHA
EATHATHSAANUSAARENA SANJNAAM BHRUMO VISHESHATAHAA.
A person who wishes to master astrology (jyothisham) should learn from elderly scholars in a regular fashion bhavams ,
nakshatrams (stars), grahams (planets), lagnams ( the position of particular happening at particular time (like birth of a
child) in the chart of planets (bhava-chakram) and many such scientific facts and fundamental concepts of the sciences
of astronomy and astrology and the symbols, glossary of scientific terms and their full meanings. We now explain some
such concepts here.
4. PASYANTHI SAPTHAMAA SARVEA SANI JEEVA KUJAH PUNAHA,

If a planet is the lord of 5th or 9th House it gives beneficial results, even if it is MALEFIC (harmful) planet; If a planet
is the Lord of 3rd or 4th house, it gives only the harmful effects, even if it is good planet.
6. NADISANTHI SUBHAM SROONAAM SAUMYAAHA KENDRA ADHIPAAYADI,
KROORASCHEADASUBHAM THVE THA, PRABALAA UTHAROTHARAM,
Even if a planet is beneficial (good) and is good-natured (soumya), it gives bad (harmful) results if that planet has
lordship of Kendraraasis, namely 4th, 7th, and 10th houses. Even if a planet is papa-graha (cruel), it gives good
(beneficial) results if that planet has lordship of kendraraasis.
Guru = Jupiter, Sukra = Veenus, Budha = Mercury, Chandra = Moon are soumya (beneficial) planets. Ravi = Sun, Kuja
= Mars, Sani = Saturn are kroora (cruel) planets.
PRABALAA UTHAROTHARAM = STRONGER IN SUCCESSIVE ORDER; this means the lord of Lagnam = house
1 gives harmful results, the lord of 4th house gives worse results, the lord of 7th house gives still worse results, the lord
of 10th house gives worst (most harmful) results. The lord of 5th house gives beneficial results; the lord of 9th house
gives more beneficial (better) results. The lord of 3rd house gives bad (harmful) results, the lord of 6th house gives
worse results, the lord of 11th house gives still worse results.
7. LAGNAD VYAYA DWITHEEYESAU PARESHAAM SAAHACHARYATAHA,
STHANANTHARAANNU GUNEYNA BHAVATHAHA PHALADAAYAKAU.
The lords of 2nd house and or 12th house are together with other planets in the same house, or they also have lordships
of other houses and such other considerations determine whether that planet gives results, good or bad. These lords of
2nd or 12th house do not have lordships of other houses or they stay in their own houses they can not give good or bad
results. Let us illustrate this fact: The lords of second houses of Mithunam (Gemini), and Karkatakam (Cancer) houses
are Chandra (Moon) and Ravi (Sun) can not cause death if they are positioned in their own houses, namely, Karkatakam
(Cancer) and Simham (Leo). (Also see slokams 49 & 53 (verses) to illustrate this fact.)
If Raahu and Kethu are in harmful houses, and are in association with cruel (bad = harmful) planets, they give bad =
harmful results. The relative strengths of association, relative position, and sight (dhrushti = seeing)of planets and their
relative strengths determine the nature & strength of results, Raahu & Kethu give.
SUBHA YOGAMS (BENEICIAL ASPECTS)
13. KENDRA THRIKONA PATHAYA SSAMBANDHENA PARASPARAM
ITHARAIRA PRASAKTHAASCHEA DVISESHA SUBHA PHALA DAAYAKAAH.
The lords of kendrams : 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th houses, and the lords of trikonamas : 1st, 5th and 9th houses have mutual
relationships, and or mutual dristhis (aspecting = seeing), and they do not have relations with other planers, they give
beneficial results. If these lords of kendrams (1,4,7,10 houses) and thrikonams (1,5,9 houses) have no relations or no
associations with lords of bad houses like 3, 6, 11 houses or dristhi (seeing) of these bad houses these planets give
highly beneficial results. If such relations or associations exist, those planets give ordinary, yet good results.
RAJA YOGAMS (VERY HIGHLY BENEFICIAL ASPECTS)
14. KENDRA TRIKONAGAE THAARAU DOSHA YUKTAAVAPI SVAYAM
SAMBANDHA MAATHRA DBHAVALINAU BHAVETHAM YOGA KAARAKAA
If the lords of bhaagya and raajya (9th and 10th ) houses are very strong, though they have doshams (defects) on their
own, and / or if they have lordships of other bad (harmful) houses, by mere association they bestow highly beneficial
results. This verse conveys ideas contrary to the ideas in verse :13, the learners must understand this as an exemption
rule , says the commentator, sage Sri Manindha.
15. NIVASEATHAAM VYATHYAYAENA THAA UBHAU DHARMA KARAMNOH,
EAKATHRA ANYATHARO VAAPINASAECHCHAE DYOGA KAARAKAAHA.
The lords of dharma and karma sthaanams (9th and 10th houses) have exchanged their places, i.e., The lord of 9th house
is in 10th house and / or the lord of 10th house is in 9th house, those two planets give Rajayogam = highly beneficial
results ; if only one planet is in such an exchanged position, i.e., the Lord of 9th house in 10th house OR the lord of 10th
house is in 9th house, only that planet gives raja-yogam.
16. THRIKONAADHIPAYORMADHYE SAMBANDHO YENA KENA CHITH,
KENDRA ADHIPASYA BALINO BHAVEDYADI SA YOGA KRUTH.
*KENDRA ADHIPASYA BALINO, CAN BE EXPLAINED ON THE BASIS OF THE RULE: PRABALAA
UTHAROTHARAA* If the the lord of the 10th house has association or relation with the Lords of 5th or 9th house, that
raajya-adhipathi = lord of 10th house gives (raja-yoga)highly beneficial results.
17. DASAASVAPI BHAVE DYOGAH, PRAAYASO YOGA KAARINOH,
DASAA DYAYEE MADYA GATHO THADAYAK SUBHA KAARINAAM.
If there are periods (maha-dasaas) of two highly beneficial planets (yoga-kaaraka grahams) come in the life of a person ,
if the maha-dasaa = main period of another beneficial (good) planet comes between those two raja-yoga dasaas
(periods), the intermediate maha-dasaa of that good planet also gives good results. The good planet may not have any
relation or association with those two raja-yoga-kaarka = highly beneficial planets.

SUB PERIODS (BHUKTIS) & THEIR ATTRIBUTES
28. NADHISEYUR GRAHAA SSARVEA SVA-DASAASU SVA-BHUKTHI BHU,
SUBHA-ASUBHA PHALAM SROONA YAATMA-BHAAVA ANUSAARATHAHA.
The planets like Ravi = Sun etc. do not give good or bad results during their sub-periods (bhukthis) within their mainperiods (maha-dasaas) as per their own bhavaas (relative positions with respect to ASD = janmalagnam = birth
aspect).
29. AATHMA SAMBNDHIGAA YECHAYE YE NIJA SADHARMANAHA,
THESHAM ANTHAR-DASAASVEVADISANTHI SVA-DASAA PHALAM.
If those planets which have relation with the lord of the main period (maha-dasa) give results within their (bhukthis)
sub-periods the same results of the lord of the main-period. If those planets do not have any
relation with the lord of the main period, yet they have attributes similar to those of the lord of main-period, then those
planets within their sub periods give the same results of the lord of main-period.
30. ITHAREASHAAM DASAANAADHA VIRUDHA PHALA DAAYINAAM,
THATHATH PHALAANU GUNYEANA PHALAA NYUHAANI BHIKTHISHUHU.
In case of planets which give results opposite those of the lord of the main-period, those planets give
results good or bad within their sub-periods (bhukthis) depending on the relativestrengths of those planetsand the lord
of the main-period. The bukthi-planet is stronger, then the results will be more of the nature of the bhukthi-lord and if
the lord of main period is stronger, then the results will be more of the nature of the main lord. But the results will be
better or worse depending on the relative strengths of the planets which are lord of main period and the lord of the subperiod.
31. SVA-DASAAYAAM THRIKONEASO BHUKTAA KENDRAPATHEA SUBHAM,
DISAE THSOSI THATHAA NOCHE DASAMBANDHEVI PAAPAKRUTH.
If the lord of konam (1st, 5th, 9th house) does not have the lordship of houses like 3rd, 6th, 8th, or 11th, and even if he
has no relation with the lord of kendram (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th house), in the main period of the lord of konam and in the
sub-period of the lord of kendram, good (benefical) results are given which are characteristic of the lord of konam. In a
similar way, the lord of paapa-kendram (harmful house) gives good results in his main period in the sub period of the
lord of konaadhipathi (lord of konam 1st, 5th, 9th ), though there is no relation between the two lords, namely the lord
of kendram and the lord of konam.
32. AARAMBHO RAJA-YOGASYA BHAVE MAARAKA BHUKTHISHU,
PRABALAYANTHI THAMARABDHAM KRAMASAHA PAAPA BHUKTHIYAHA.
If a planet has maarka (death-causing) qualities, and if the same planet has raja-yoga = highly beneficial attributes, that
planet gives highly beneficial results in its own sub-period within its own main-period. That highly beneficial also
continues and increases in the sub-periods of paapa-grahas = harmful planets, provided those bad planets have no
relation with the lord of the main-period.
33. THATHSAMBANDHI SUBHNAANCHA THATHAA PUNARA SAMUTHAAM,
SUBHANAANTHU SAMATHVENA NA SAMYUGYO YOGA-KAARUNAHA.
Those beneficial (good) planets which are related to the raja-yoga-kaaraka = highly beneficial planetgive highly
beneficial results during their sub-periods. In addition to this good effect, those beneficial planets which have no relation
to the raja-yoga-kaaraka planet also give beneficial results during their sub-periods.
34. SUBHASYA SVAVIYUKTHASYA DASAAYAAM YOGA-KAARAKAAHA,
SVA-SVA BHUKTHISHU CHECHANTHI KUTHRA CHIDYOGA KAARINAAM.
The highly beneficial planets (raja-yoga-kaaraka) give beneficial results during the main periods of other beneficial
planets, during their own sub-periods, though they have no relation to this H.B.(highly beneficial) planets. In addition,
the H.B.planets give beneficial results during the sub-periods of the other beneficial (good) planets within their mainperiods.
35. THAMO GRAHOU SUBHAAROONA VA SAMBANDHASCHA KENACHITH,
ANTHAR DASAAYAA SUROOPENA BHAVETHAAM YOGA-KAARIKAU.
If RAAHU and KETHU do not have any relation or association with other harmful (bad) planets, and if they are
positioned in good (beneficial) houses, they give good results during their main periods, and duringthe sub-periods of
other beneficial planets.
36. PAAPAAYADI DASAANAADHAA SSUBHAACHA THADASAMYUJAAM,
BHUKTHAYAHA PAAPA PHALADAAHAH THATHPAMYUKUCHBHA BHUKTHAYAH.
37. BHAVANTHI MISRA PHALADAAH BHUKTHAYO YOGAA KAARINAAM,
ATHYANTHA PAAPA PHALADAA BHAVANTHI DAVA SAMYUJAAH
The lords of main-periods, if they have no relation with harmful (paapa-graha) planets, they give harmful results during
the sub-periods of beneficial planets. Beneficial (subha-grahams) planets have relation with the lords of the main
periods, give mixed results during their sub-periods. If the H.B planets have no relation with the lords of main-periods
give harmful (bad = paapa) results only.
38. SATHYAPI SVENA SAMBANDHEA NAHANTHI SUBHA-BHUKTHISHU,
HANTHYA SATHYAPI SAMBANDHEA MARAKAHA PAAPA-BHUKTHISHU.
The lord of main period (LMP) who has maaraka (death-causing) quality will not cause death during the sub-periods of
beneficial planets who have relation or association with him (LMP). The LMP causes death during the sub-periods of
the harmful planets, even they have no relation with LM P planet (death-causing).
39. PARASPARA DASAAYANTHU SVA-BHUKTHAU SAURI, BHARGAVAU,
PRATHISAETHAAM VYATHYAYENA VISESHENA SUBHA-ASUBHAM.
In case of Sani (Saturn) and Sukra (Veenus), when the sub-period of one planet comes during the main period of the
other planet (namely sub-period of Sani in Sukras main period or sub-period of Sukra in the main period of Sani), they
together give very highly good or bad results depending on the attributes of the bhukthi (sub-period).
40. PRATHI LAGNAM SAMAA LAKSHYA POORVODHITHISHTAA VIRODHITHAHA,
THATHA THATH GRAHA SWAROOPINI KRAPEANAIVA VIVRUNMAHEA.
We hereunder study full details of each birth-house (Janma-lagnam = ASD) and based on the basic laws propounded till
now in the above 39 slokaas (Sanskrit verses), we now describe the beneficial and harmful aspects of the planets for
each birth-house (Janma-lagnam).
GOOD & BAD ASPECTS OF PLANETS FOR EACH BIRTH-HOUSE
MESHA LAGNAM (HOUSE OF ARIES)
Kuja(Mars), Guru (Jupiter) and Chandra (Moon) are evil planets for a person born in Kanyaa-lagnam house of Virgo =
ASD). Kuja is the lord of 3rd and 8th houses; Guru is the lord of 4th and 7th houses (kendrams) Chandra = Moon is the
lord of 11th house; so they give harmful results. Sukra (VEENUS) is the only beneficial planet. Budha (Mercry) and
Sukra (Veenus) are beneficial planets. Sukra can not cause death. Planets like Kuja, which have maaraka-qualities can
cuase death to the person born in Sima-lagnam.
THULAA LAGNAM (HOUSE OF LIBRA)
57. JEEVA, ARKA, MAHIJAAHA PAAPAAHA, SANAISCHARAA, BUDHAU SUBHAU,
BHAVETHAAM RAAJA-YOGASYA-KAARAKA VINDU THATHSUDHO.
58. KUJO NA HANTHAA JEEVEDYAAHA PAREA MAARAKA LANCHANAAHA.
NIHANTHAARAHA PHALAANVEVAM JNAATHAVYAANI THULAA BHUVAHA
Ravi (Sun), Kuja (Mars), and Guru (Jupiter) are evil planets for persons born in Thulaa-lagnam (House of Libra=ASD).
Guru is the lord of 3rd house and 6th house; Ravi is the lord of 11th house; Kuja is the lord of 2nd and 7th houses; so
they give harmful results. Sani (Saturn) and Budha are good (H.B.) planets (subha-grahams). If Budha (Mercury) and
Chandra (Moon) have mutual relation or association, they give very beneficial results. Kuja (Mars) is the lord of 2nd
and 7th houses (two maaraka houses), and yet Kuja can not cause death. The other planets like Guru (Jupiter) which
have marakaa-qualities are powerful to cause death.
VRUSCHIKA LAGNAM (HOUSE OF SCORPIO)
59. BUDHA, SUKRA, ARKA-THANAYAAHA PAAPAA, SURA-GURU SUBHAAH,
SURYA, CHANDRA MASAAVEVA BHAVATHAAM YOGA-KAARAKAU.
60. JEEVAA NAHANTHAA, SOUMYAADYAAHA HANTHARO MAARAKAAHVYAYAAH.
THATHA TH PHALAANI VIJNEYAA NYEPAM VRUSCHIKAA JANMANAHA.
Budha (Mercury), Sukra (Venus), and Sani (Saturn) are evil planets for a person born in Vruschika- Lagnam (House of
Scorpio = ASD). Budha is the lord of 8th and 11th houses; Sukra is the lord of 6th and 12th houses; Sani is the lord of
3rd house; so they are harmful planets. Guru (Jupiter) is good (HB) planet. Ravi (Sun) and Chandra (Moon) are related
or associated they give beneficial results (raja-yoga-kaaraka). Guru (Jupiter) can not cause death. Other planets like
Budha which have maarka-qualities can cause death.
DHANUR LAGNAM (HOUSE OF SAGITTARIUS)
61. EKA EVA KAVIHI PAAPAHA, SUBHAU BHOUMA, DIVAAKARAU,
YUKTHO BHASKARA SAUMYAABHYAAM SYAA NA HANTHA AMUSU DUTHYATHAHA.
62. GHNARANTHI SUKRA ADAYAHA PAAPAAHA HANTHRU-LAKSHANA-LAKSHITHAAHA,
JNAATHAVYAANI PHALAANEYVAM-CHAAPA JANYA MANISHIBHIHI.
Sukra (Venus) alone is evil planet for a person born in Dhanu-lagnam (House of Sagittarius). Sukra is the lord of 6th and
11th houses; so he is harmful. Ravi (Sun) and Kuja (Mars) are good (HB) planets. If Sani (Saturn) has association with
Ravi (Sun) and Budha (Mercury), Sani can not cause death. Sukra and other planets with maarka-qualities can cause
death.
MAKARA LAGNAM (HOUSE OF CAPRICORN)
Kuja Dosham
Hindu astrology is universal and successfully predicted the fates of people for thousands of years. Many people who
believe astrology, seriously take into consideration whether the bride and or groom have any Kuja (Mangala) Dosham
(defective disposition of Mars) in their horoscopes. This aspect is widely discussed all over India and also by persons of
Indian origin settled abroad. They go to consult astrologers; some astrologers may not be able to give correct advice due
to their lack of depth of knowledge. Also this problem of Kuja dosham (defective disposition of Mars in the horoscope)
is intricate and requires very careful assessment. We prepared this article to highlight the concepts properly, so that the
readers are benefited by the clarifications.
Let us consider two teenagers who like to get married; the girl is (say) Gouri (G) and the boy is (say) Bhaskar (B).
Marriage is a social event of utmost importance; it is advisable to examine the horoscopes of both G and B and assess
compatibility of both horoscopes before finalizing their marriage. While assessing the compatibility we have to examine
the aspects pertaining to Kuja (Mars), Sukra (Venus) and Chandra (Moon). Mars (Kuja) is the planet which influences
the sperm in males; Sukra (Venus) is the planet which influences the ovum in females; and moon causes sexual desire in
the couple and urges them to copulate; he acts strongly on the minds of the couple. So these three planets Mars, Venus
and Moon play vital role in the married life of B and G; and in general in all humans. Besides the presiding planet of
marriage and conjugal life is Venus (Sukra). So the conjugal life of married couple is ruled by Mars; he can make their
conjugal life enjoyable or miserable.
The nature of Mars (Kuja) is fire. He is deemed to be malefic. He is the lord of two houses in the Zodiac, namely
Mesham (Aries) and Vruschikam (Scorpio); Makaram (Capricorn) is house of Exultation (Utach) and Karkatakam
(Cancer) is the house of debilitation for Mars.
Budha (Mercury) is enemy to Kuja (Mars). Ravi (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Guru (Jupiter) are friends to Mars (Kuja;
Mangala); Sani (Saturn) and Sukra (Venus) are neutrals (neither friend nor enemy) to Mars. But Mars is enemy to
Saturn. Mars is neutral to Raahu and Kethu. Venus and Mars are mutually neutrals. Sun and Mars are mutually friends.
Mars is neutral to Moon. Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends. Mars has retrograde (vakra-gathi) motion and also standstill (sthambhana) state. Due to this stand-still characteristic Mars (Kuja) can stay in a house (rasi) for more period than
is usually destined).
If Mars (Kuja) is ill-disposed in any horoscope, some remedies are prescribed in Hindu astrology.
1) Japam (recitation) or prayer to Lord Sri Subrahmanyam 7000 times. Sri Subrahmanya Swami is the presiding deity to
Mars.
2) Wear a gold ring with a coral (pagadam) to the left hand ring finger (anamika).
3) Give (alms-offering) daanam 7 kgs. of redgram (Kandulu) to a temple-priest / purohit / Brahmin; the sincere practice
of these three remedial measures can reduce the ill-effects.
Now we explain briefly what is Kuja-dosham in the horoscopes of B and G:
It is stated in Astrological texts, that the horoscope (birth chart) of a person has Kuja-dosham (defective disposition of
Mars) if Mars is present in one of the following houses 1,2,4,7,8,12 counted from the house of birth (ascendant) and the
house of Moon (rasi) and the house of Venus (Sukra). It is described as follows: LAGNAM (BIRTH HOUSE) is
denoted as body; MOON is denoted as mind; SUKRA is deemed as giver of spouse & marriage causing planet. It is
described in ancient Sanskrit text MUHOORTHA-CHINTHAMANI* : slokam : LAGNAE VYAYAECHA,
PAATHALAE, JAMITHRAECHA, ASHTAMAE KUJAE STHREENAAM HARTHRU VINASAAYA: PUMSAA
BHARYA VINASANAM; The famous ancient Saint-Astrologer Sri Agashtya Maharshi wrote in his text on Astrology,
*AGASTYA SAMHITHA; DHANAE , VYAYEACHA, PAATHALAE, JAMITHRECHA, ASHTAMAE KUJA
STHITHU, KUJA-DOSHAMUCHYATHAE;
The ill-effect of Mars is strongest (100%) when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house of Venus
(Sukra); the ill-effect of Mars is very strong (about 75%) when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house
of Moon: the ill-effect of Mars is moderately strong (about 66%)when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from
the house of birth (Janma-lagnam= ascendant). But 75% of the general astrologer are quacks and do not possess the
depth of knowledge and experience in Astrology; so they explain the Kuja dosham taking the moon-position or lagnam
as the starting point to count; this is not at all correct in our opinion. We must take the position of Venus (Sukra) as the
reference house, because Sukra is the ruling planet for conjugal life and marriage.
We give hereunder six horoscopes (birth-charts) to illustrate our explanations. We showed the positions of planets
Moon, Mars and Venus and birth lagnam only. We also showed other planets which are in association (staying in the
same house) with lagnam, Moon, Mars and Venus. We specified clearly, in each case, the nature of Kuja-dosham : is it
from birth house (lagnam / ASC) or from Moons house (raasi) or from Venus house.
Example: 1. Kuja-dosham is from Venus (Sukra). Denotes the planet is in retrograde motion.

The houses (bhaavas) 1,2,4,7,8,12 from Lagnam in the horoscope (birth chart) of B and G denote the following aspects.
(a) 1. Lagnam is thanu-bhaavam (house of body). So lagnam denotes the health, sturdiness of body, appearance, and
nature of the person. (b) 2nd house from Lagnam explains the family, happiness in home, riches and money, talking
power, eyes, and death of the person. 4th house from Lagnam gives information about the persons education, own
house, mother, car (vehicle), lands, and conjugal happiness. (d) the 7th house from lagnam tells about the persons
spouse, mutual love and affection among the married couple, their health, lust, prostitution (adultery), sperm, ovum and
death of the person (maarakam). (e) the 8th house tells about the persons longevity, and life-style. (f) the 12th house
from lagnam tells about expenditure, waste, characteristics / qualities, sexual happiness, losses, fame and moksham
(liberation).
If Mars (Kuja=Mangala) stays in any of these houses, we can assess how far these bhavaas are spoiled by Mars (malefic
planet); so we can tell how far the persons horoscope is damaged & the ill effects caused to the person in his / her life.
It is desirable to perform marriage of the girl G, (with Kuja-dosham) with the boy B with Kuja-dosham. Kuja-dosham
must be present in both the horoscopes of B & G; or must be absent in both.
If one person has Kuja-dosham in his/her horoscope and the other person has no kuja-dosham, it is not desirable to
perform their marriage; then their conjugal life is affected; they suffer. According to Kerala Astrology, the woman G has
Kuja-dosham and the man B has no Kuja dosham, and if Kuja period occurs in her youth years, her conjugal life is
affected: her husband may die or get separated from her. During the past 40 years of my experience as Astrologer, I
found this happened in the lives of dozens of married couple.
Great sages of ancient times had profound knowledge of Hindu astrology; Atri, Narada and such Maharishis suggested
some remedies and exemptions for this Kuja-dosham. Here we summarise some of those exemptions: There is no Kujadosham in any of the following case and Mars does not harm.
The great Saint-Astrologers of ancient times mentioned in a slokam : ARKA, INDU KSHETHRA JATHANAM KUJADOSHO NA VIDYATHAE; SVA, UTCHA, MITHRA BHAJATHAANAM PEEDKO NA BHATH KUJA :
1.
If Mars is in his own house; Mesham (Aries) and Vruschikam (Scorpio) are own houses for Mars
2.
If Mars stays in one of his friends houses, Kuja dosahm is not applicable; Karkatakam (Cancer) is own house of
Moon (Chandra); Simham (Leo) is own house of Ravi (Sun); Dhanasu (Sagittarius) and Meenam (Pisces) are own
houses of Guru (Jupiter).
3.
If Mars is in the own house of Sani; namely Makaram (Capricorn) and Kumbham (Aquarius).
4.
Mesham (Aries), Karkatakam (Cancer), Thula (Libra), and Makaram (Capricorn) are movable signs (chararaasis); if Mars stays in one of these houses and that chara-raasi (house) is 1, 2,4, 7, 8, 12th house from the house
of birth (Lagnam) or the house of moon (raasi) or the house where Sukra (Venus) stays, there is no Kuja-dosham;
Mars does not harm.
5.
If Moon and Kuja are together in the same house, there is no Kuja dosham.
6.
If Sani (Saturn) & Kuja (Mars), or if Kuja & Raahu or if Kuja & Kethu pair in same house.
7.
If Mars & Guru (Jupiter),or Mars & Budha (Mercury) are together in the same house. Or if Guru or Budha are
aspecting (seeing) Mars.
8.
9.
If Mars is in 2nd house from the houses of Guru (Jupiter), Budha (Mercury) or Sani (Saturn).
16. Well-known astrologers of present times, Relangi, Tangirala, Pidaparthi Poornaih wrote in their Panchangams
(Ephemeris) and books, that Kuja-dosham is not applicable if there is Kuja dosham from lagnam and from Moon
house and Venus house all three houses in same horoscope.
Their opinion appears to be justified; but that opinion has no support from the standard works (writings) of great sages,
and profound scholars of ancient astrology.
1.
If Mars (Kuja) is in 12th house from lagnam, Moon or Venus, in both the horoscopes of the male B and female G,
the remedy / exemption of Kuja-dosham in both horoscopes is same; the dosham (defect) in one horoscope is
remedied by the dosham in the second horoscope.
2.
Some astrologers are of opinion, that Mars in 1st, 4th or 8th house from lagnam, or Moon or Venus in horoscopes
of the male B, does not harm the wife G. Similarly, the Mars in 2nd or 7th houses from lagnam, Moon or Venus in
the horoscope of female G, does not harm her husband B.
3.
If Mars (Kuja) is in 2nd or 12th houses from lagnam, Moon, or Venus in the horoscopes of male B, Mars
harms the person B , also his wife G in periods of Mars.
If Mars is in 4th or 7th houses from Lagnam, Moon or Venus in the horoscope of female G. also her
husband B, Kuja harms in his periods.
If Mars in 8th house from the lagnam, Moon or Venus, in the horoscope of B or G, Kuja dosham exists
and it harms the person B or G, in the periods of Mars.
During the past four decades, we studied many books and horoscopes carefully, but could not find uniformity of
opinions among scholars; we found no guidelines to adopt from their books. Among the 6 examples, we gave above,
there is Kuja-dosham in the horoscope chart of 2; by the position of Mars in the lagnam-house (ASC); the distance
between Kethu and Kuja is considerable; the pairing effect of Kuja and Kethu is absent. In the other 5 examples, the
Kuja dosham is remedied, due to the application of rules of exemption, we cited above. So it appears to us that there is
no need to fear too much about Kuja dosham (mal-dispositon of Mars) in the horoscopes of bride and groom.
