I. Executive Summary

Subject Matter
Mrs. Marites B. Pia, SPED Teacher I at Sta. Cruz National High School is being nominated for
the Outstanding SPED Teacher in the Division of Davao del Sur. Her 3 years experience and
notable performance have qualified her for such nomination.

Methods and Analysis


Mrs Marites B. Pia have been active in school, district, division, regional, and national in SPED
related activities. She have continuously updating herself in this profession.

Findings
Based on the accomplishments she have achieved for the last 3 years, she is qualified to be
nominated for Outstanding SPED Teacher.

Conclusions
Mrs Marites B. Pias commendable commitment and dedication in Sped Education is
remarkable and is worthy to be emulated by rest of SPED teachers in Davao del Sur.

Recommendations
Thereafter, she is recommended to be nominated for the Outstanding Sped Teacher in Davao

del Sur.
II. Significant Accomplishment/s within the last three years

Marites B. Pia have accomplished the following:

Integration of ICT in the teaching-learning process. The use of ICT is changing the SPED
teaching in several ways. With ICT, Mrs. Marites B. Pia has able to create her own material
and thus have more control over the material used in the classroom than they have had in the
past. Technology has required her to be more creative in customizing her own material. As a
result she have captured not just the short attention of her SPED learners but also their hearts
to learn more about the subject.
Moreover, It is evident that involving students in the creation of useful material as a part of a
learning exercise is a way to make school more meaningful for SPED students. The use of
peripheral devices on computers to help shows how ICT can be used to aid the learning

process and help SPED students focus on higher level concepts rather than less meaningful
tasks. By far, because of Mrs. Pias effort to create a fun, loving, and accepting environment to
her SPED learners, she was able to purchase a complete set of ICT materials. Thus, her
SPED program is the most comprehensive aided by ICT in the Division of Davao del Sur.

The Use of Psychological Assessment in the enrolment and learning process of SPED
learners. Psychological assessment is very important aspect in SPED Education. A
comprehensive assessment is conducted to determine eligibility for special education and to
identify the specific areas of strength and unique educational needs. The reason that
comprehensive assessment and evaluation procedures are needed is because learning
disabilities may be manifested differently among individuals over time, in severity, and across
settings.
Furthermore, the manifestations of learning disabilities are often subtle and may be
hidden when students use compensatory or avoidance strategies. With Mrs Marites B. Pias
effort and initiative to provide a holistic development among her SPED learners, she was able
to purchase different psychological assessments that helped her plan, strategize, and
intervene to the different faucet of SPED education.
As a result, the positive impact of these psychological testing materials was not just used
solely by the SPED learners but also in all Special Program Curriculum in Sta Cruz National
High School, wherein data from tests materials were valid and reliable. As a whole, it have
helped the school and community in general.

Marites B. Pia has Initiated two resource room for SPED learners. One of the most
important things Mrs. Pia can do is to proactively manage her class is to establish a climate
that encourages learning to her SPED learners. Mrs. Pia is aware of her students intellectual,
emotional, physical and social needs and establish rules and procedures to meet them. She
believed that her SPED students should be recognized as individuals, each of whom has
something to offer.
Mrs. Marites B. Pias effort and initiative to provide a conducive place for learning to her SPED
students have led her to initiate a construction of two resource room. As a result, she was able
to provide not just a school but a HOME to Sped learners. Making Mrs. Pias effort as one of
the most notable SPED Teacher in the province of Davao del Sur.

Won Sped Competitions in the Regional and National Level. As a result of her untiring
passion to teach these challenging learners, she was able to prove that her teaching strategies
were very effective as indicated in her active involvement to different competitions. She has
been a winning coach for consecutive years as shown by her certificates and recognitions.
More than anything else, she have broke the barrier that her children (SPED Learners) is a

competitive as she is. Consequently, she able to instill to her SPED learners life skills, and self
confidence to believe in themselves. As a result, through that achievement she was able to
encouraged the rest of the SPED learners in Sta. Cruz National High School as shown by the
sudden increase of academic performance and interpersonal relationship among her SPED
learners.

Active involvement in professional growth. More than the accomplishments, Mrs. Pia
believed that she has to learn more because there is so much to give to the promising Sped
Learners. She has been updating herself through attending seminar-workshops in the regional,
national, and international level. These seminar-workshops have equipped her to be more
effective SPED teachers. As a result, she was able to encourage other teachers to join
seminar workshops and thus help her promulgate the awareness of SPED Education in the
province of Davao del Sur.

Active involvement in community. Mrs. Pia believed that she was blessed with the
profession she called to perform. More than a life in the field of education, she is also a lay
personnel in church and an active volunteer as sign language interpreter. She is serving the
church for 3 years and counting as a sign language interpreter for deaf who goes to church
every Sunday. Her dedication, passion, and commitment has transcended from work to
community.

III. Impact of accomplishment


Mrs. Pias accomplishments have led to the following:

Neighborhood School placement. Students generally benefit from attending the same
school in their neighborhood over a period of years, which helps Mrs. Pia develop the longlasting social relationships that are an important component of SPED education. She have
continuously traced and reached out to SPED teachers and SPED learners from elementary
level yearly provide a academic opportunity and education for these SPED learners.

A general education homeroom. All SPED students in a school need to feel that they are members
of the community rather than outsiders. By placing all her students in a general education
homeroom, schools create an environment that emphasizes all of us rather than us and them.
With the trainings and workshops Mrs. Pia have attended, she was effectively delivery this kind of
strategy that led to a more accepting environment of SPED learners in Sta. Cruz National High
School. As a result, she was able to break the stigma and misinformation of sped education.
Provide spaces for SPED learners. Many schools call themselves inclusive but still maintain
segregated classrooms based on special education identifications and labels. Mrs Pia iniated

specific resource room for the sped learners suited to their individual needs. As a result, students
who need individualized supports from special educators can receive these.
Continual Planning. With the use of psychological assessments and incorporated sped education
strategies which Mrs. Pia have initiated and pioneered, she was able to met the following:
Identify universal and differentiated instruction options for all sped students within the
lesson.
Decide which individualized education goals the lesson should emphasize for students

with special needs.


Articulate the expectations for each sped student's performance.
Identify the content of the activity, theme, or unit of study.
Determine what and how to teach as a team.
Determine how students with special education needs can actively participate and

achieve the same essential outcomes as their general education peers.


Select or design appropriate adaptations for students who cannot achieve the same
outcomes.
Creative teaching based on best practice. Mrs. Marites B. Pia use a repertoire of curriculum
adaptations, differentiated instruction strategies, and universal design approaches. Particularly of the
integration of ICT in the delivery of her instruction. Moreover, employing cooperative learning, peertutoring formats in which everyone has a chance to be a tutor, and other sociable structures
prepares SPED people for the real world, where collaboration is expected and essential. As a result,
she was able to induced to her students life skills and self confidence.
A problem-solving mind-set. When teachers see all behavior as a form of communication, they
move away from viewing misbehavior as an indication that something is wrong with the student.
Instead, these teachers examine what the student is trying to communicate through his or her
behavior and consider what changes they need to make in environmental, instructional,
communication, choice/control, and physiological variables. With the Challenging kind of profession,
it led Mrs. Pia to more of a problem solver rather than of a problem. She believe that she a solution
to the growing problem of SPED education. She have addressed and fought for the rights of her
students. Thus, advocating activities that is beneficial to her SPED learners.
Access to after-school activities and social relationships. Everyone needs social relationships to
learn and grow. If particular sped students are unable to find an existing after-school club that
interests them, consider creating one that meets their interests and needs. Mrs. Pia have partnered
with different communities (DSWD, LGU, SCHOOLS) to ensure that her students will still have life
after school. This is indicated to the many life and entrepreneurial skills Mrs. Pia have attended. As a
result, she was able to teaching the essentials thins every SPED learner should learn.
Commitment to making it work. Mrs Pia is one of the educators who are most successful in
including students have an ongoing belief that they can make it work. The attitude that all students
belong everywhere is the backbone philosophy of teams that make inclusion work. Her commitment
to her profession is noted to the different endeavours she have engaged herself with while delivering
the best education for SPED learners.

Mrs. Marites B. Pia has been a teacher, and advocate of SPED education. With her remarkable
passion and commitment she have accomplished the following:

Mrs. Marites B. Pia has initiated the conduct of the School Based SPED Teachers Seminar
held at Sta. Cruz Municipal Training Center, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on March 4, 2016.
Division Level
Mrs. Marites B. Pia was a facilitator during the Division Training on Basic Sign Languange and
Teaching Strategies for Learners with Disability on June 23-24, 2012.

education. She is using a qualitative and quantitative data that will pave way to a
research based education that is more valid and reliable in the

strategising sped education.
