Chapter -1 : Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is one of the two municipal corporations in Dhaka created
when the former Dhaka City Corporation was divided into two. The Corporation was created by the
Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Bill 2011 on 29 November 2011 passed in
the Parliament of Bangladesh, following the President's approval.
Dhaka South City Corporation consists of 57 wards covering the thanas of Azimpur, Maghbazar, Malibagh,
Motijheel, Jatrabari, Dhaka Kotwali, Sutrapur, Bangsal, Wari, Gendaria, Lalbagh, Hazaribagh, Dhanmondi,
Shahbagh, New Market, Khilgaon, Kamrangirchar & some others.
Wards 55 & 56 are the wards of Kamrangirchar upazilla. Some areas of these wards which were previously
ruled under the different union parishad of Kamrangirchar upazilla and the lions portion of the wards were
under the wards of 90,91 of joined Dhaka City Corporation . So the rearranged administrative boundary is
needed for any purpose of development of Dhaka South City Corporation .

1.2 Goal
Identification of the administrative boundary of rearranged wards 55 & 56 of Dhaka South City Corporation
(DSCC) and representation of their digitized maps.

1.3 Objectives of the study

To verify the existing recorded boundary of the wards.

To develop the latest and updated record of road networking system of the ward.

To create the database of built up area of the two wards.

To represent the rearranged map of the ward no 55 and 56.

1.4 Limitations of the study

Sometimes, settlements are so compacted that is very tough to identify a single feature.

CS map provided by DCC is so distorted and doesnt cover the new born Area.

The time duration respected to man power for the whole work is not enough for the physical feature
survey.

Shortage of MOUZA maps.

Chapter-2: Methodology
2.1 Methodology
Methodology is the systematic, theoretical analysis of the methods applied to a field of study,
or the theoretical analysis of the body of methods and principles associated with a branch of
knowledge. It is a systematic procedure to conduct the study properly. It not only uses for
providing solution of different problem but also discuss about the way how we conduct the
study. Methodology is very important for observations, examinations, analysis of data and
information through a systemic way in order to obtain the ultimate goal and objective. The
total stages that are undertaken to complete the work are divided in three phases namely
Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III.

2.2 Problem Statement

Huge demand of increasing population affects the ground coverage. People in Dhaka city
always in need of their own settlement area. Thus most of the poor people even rich people are
interested in the char area. They supply the ingredients to cover up the area of their interest.
Thus the Buriganga River area are continuously decreasing. And this is happening at a alarming
rate over Two of the word area. The ground coverage of the ward area is continuously
increasing.

2.3 Data Collection

To conduct this study, it is needed the data of both the secondary and primary sector.

2.3.1 Secondary Data

Secondary data are collected form the
From the database of Dhaka South City Corporation, it is given
Base map Ward No. 55(Part-1), Zone No. 3, Dhaka City Corporation Printed map
Base map Ward No. 55(Part-2), Zone No. 3, Dhaka City Corporation Printed map
Base map Ward No. 56, Zone No. 3, Dhaka City Corporation Printed map
GIS file of ward No. 57, Zone No. 3 Dhaka City Corporation.
DSCC JPEG/TIFF formatted Map which has no georeferenced data.
Other GIS file which was provided was much more distorted and they dont get any priority
in the project.
ArcGIS Online is used as the working ground in the project.

2.3.2 Primary data

Primary data like the physical features, housing pattern, roads networks, waterbody, are taken by ArcGIS
Online Imagry data. This technology is free to use and it update its map frequently. This data is the best
possible data for the country perspective. Because there is no satellite of Bangladesh. Satellite is mostly
needed for the country. Without the proper data source, it is not possible to create a real time solution for
the country.

2.4Field Investigation
The study area has been selected namely Kamrangir-Char area for conducting the study on
Boundary Selection. Data has been collected with the collaboration technique of the word
councilor and with the help of Google map.

2.4.1Data Collaboration
Data collaboration used to found out the actual boundary of that area. Two representative has
been selected to show their boundary area. The two representative accurately know their own
area. They both worked in this project and the boundary has been sated with their mutual
boundary line. So theres no error in defining the boundary area.
Google Map data is really useful to indicate the boundary area without an error. 100+ latitude
and longitude data has been collected to select the single boundary line.

In this procedure a single visit is enough for the data collection. This collected latitude and longitude
information used in the Boundary creation of the Area.

Chapter-4: Recommendation
Immediate Action Needed

Imediately it needed to take decition about the road pattern of the area otherwise the area
will be unfitted for living.

Major Road is not presented in the ward area. Road should be specified.

Proper master plan needed for the area.

Carbon absorbtion is high in this area Immediate action needed to carbon nutralization
project as Tree plantation project.

Char-Area consumption must need to stop otherwise Buriganga river will be banished.

Proper act about the two boundary line is needed to save the Buriganga River.

Waste disposal is the major problem of the area. People use their surrounding area for
waste disposal which makes the environment full of odor.

Other Action may consider

Vegetation data calculation of the area about the vegetation decision over this two ward.

Water flow measurement is needed to calculate the possible area of water contamination
and designing the drainage line implementation.

Buriganga water treatment plant should be constructed over the Char area of this two ward
area.

Environment analysis needed over this mostly affected town area of Dhaka City.
