Active Participation

The student daily engages in class discussions, activities, and group work.

The student engages in class discussions at least once a week, and he/she actively
participates in class activities and group work.

The student rarely engages in class discussions, but he/she participates in class
activities and group work.

The student never engages in class discussions, and he/she minimally participates
in class activities and group work.

The student never engages in class discussions, and he/she does not participate in
class activities or group work.

Connectivity

The student acknowledges statements made by the previous speaker(s). His/her


comments are generally directed towards building more complex critical thinking,
which can be observed through the students insightful and relevant observations
and questions.

The student acknowledges statements made by the previous speaker(s), but


his/her comments are simplistic or totally off the wall.

The student is off task (i.e. doing other homework, sleeping, day-dreaming, not
paying attention, etc.).

Gentility

The student is courteous towards others and willing to listen, and he/she
acknowledges and respects all viewpoints (even if they are not his/her own). The
student helps keep the classroom clean by throwing away trash and leaving the
desk area clean and neat.

The student can get distracted and talk out of turn; however, he/she generally tries
to be respectful of others and he/she keeps the classroom clean and neat.

The students rudeness and disrespect towards others and his/her unwillingness to
listen to other students viewpoints will result in a call home and disciplinary action
taken as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Readiness/Preparation

The student is on time to class, all electronic devices are turned off and stowed
away, and his/her books, materials and homework are organized and in class.

The student is occasionally tardy, he/she generally remembers to turn off electronic
devices and put them away, and his/her books, materials and homework are
sometimes missing.

The student has excessive tardies, he/she continually forgets his/her books,
