From the Pastor’s Desk
My Dear People:
Our Lady of Sorrows is sponsoring two
outreaches of spreading the faith. The first is
our youth group going with the youth group
from St. Peter to teach catechism at the
vacation bible school in Eutaw in Green
County under the guidance of the Consolata
Sisters.
The second outreach is our youth group
going all the way to Mexico. This highly
organized mission trip by almost thirty of our
people involves five families and a couple of
individuals who will travel from here to San
Antonio, crossing the border at Laredo, on a
seven-hour trip into the heart of Mexico near
Monterrey. Just the travel alone on the van
from San Antonio to Monterrey is a huge
sacrifice.
This outreach is organized by the Family
Mission Company, a lay Catholic mission
organization based in Louisiana. Chelsea
Piper, our Youth Minister, has gone on this
mission experience before and has
organized the mission trip for OLS. The
scene of this mission work is a small town
called General Cepeda which is surrounded
by desert…We don’t think of Mexico as
having a desert, but if we saw the movie,
Treasure of Sierra Madre, we could better
visualize this. The purpose is to help very
poor people in these desert places with the
realization that the Church cares about them.
Our “missionaries” will repair their homes,
visit the shut-ins and bring them food and
medicine. Our people will hold prayer
services for them and encourage them in the
ways of God. Our families will also
experience working together as families
during this missionary effort.

poverty and the extreme heat of the desert
with no air conditioning. OLS has supported
this group with prayers and finances. The
group leaves for the “desert” on June 18.
Please continue to remember them in your
prayers.
We also recognize, with our prayers and
gratitude, the great effort of the volunteers for
our own vacation bible school beginning
June 14. Without the parents and teens who
give generously of their time for the vacation
bible school, there would not be these
reminders of the Biblical themes centering on
our salvation through Jesus. Our very young
people are so impressionable and with “no
school” during the summer, the parish
vacation bible school is a great opportunity to
deepen the faith in our so impressionable
young people.
Vacation time is no vacation from God,
though the devil would love to think that we
could be convinced of this. We need
reminders and the volunteers to Greene
County and the deserts of Mexico and our
own vacation bible school volunteers remind
us to keep serving the good Lord even during
the summer.

Ernie Eltz Volunteer of the Year Award
The OLS Ernie Eltz Volunteer of the Year
Award is presented annually by the Knights
of Columbus to the OLS parishioner who
best personifies the spirit of volunteerism to
our Church community shown by Ernie Eltz.
This award will be presented during the 4th of
July Festival.
Nomination forms may be picked up in the
Church vestibule. Nominations can be put in
the Sunday collection, in the marked box
located in the vestibule or can be brought to
the Church office. Nominations are due by
Monday, June 21.

OPERATIONS MANAGER
Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree
(B. A. or B.S.) specializing in
Accounting/Business Administration, along
with three years financial, accounting, and
office management; experience in school
administration preferred; responsible for
managing the business operations of schools
in five locations; to carry out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with Diocesan
policies and applicable laws. The manager
will exhibit sound and accurate judgment in
decision making; manage the business, and
financial affairs of the schools to include
budgeting , planning, and management of
income and expenses; ability to solve
practical problems without specific
directions, using considerable judgment.
The manager will have the opportunity to
oversee budgeting, accounting, financial
reporting, purchasing and distribution of
books, supplies and services; tuition
collection. The manager must have excellent
communication skills, both written and oral.
This candidate must be able to perform as a
“hands-on” financial manager over five
schools. Also, possess good people skills;
have a creative, stress-resistant and result-
oriented personality.
