The main focus of this course is to strongly reinforce and the further develop students' four language
skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and to thoroughly prepare them for IB Mandarin B HL
examinations. It aims to enable our students:
to achieve high intermediate level communicative fluency in spoken Mandarin and to achieve
strong intermediate level literacy in reading and writing Chinese;
to enable the students to engage meaningfully within the community and culture around them
and to develop strong skills to lay the solid foundations for lifelong Chinese learning;
to prepare the students comprehensively for academic success in Chinese language, history,
literature and culture learning.
WELCOME TO IB MANDARIN B (HL)
Welcome to IB Mandarin HL class. This class will be conducted in Mandarin only.
You will be exposed to a wide variety of authentic texts (written and oral) covering a large range of
topics relevant to the specific Language B and its culture. You will apply your language 4 skillslistening, speaking, reading and writing into the communicative modes of interactive oral, receptive
skill as well as productive skills. Competency in listening and speaking on a variety of topics is
required. You will also be evaluated for reading comprehension and writing proficiency. Writing an
essay with 480-600 characters is one of the main goals. You should be prepared to spend an additional
5-10 hours per week outside of class time.

ASSESSMENT POLICY
Refer to the School Assessment Policy in the Handbook for late work and missing work,
absences, or academic dishonesty, etc.
1) Academic Grade
20% Formative Assessment 20% : Daily base performance on learning 4 language skills in written
and oral responses such as quizzes, oral response in class discussion, sentence patterns, etc.
Summative Assessment 80% : Over all Performance base on the results of learning in Written or
Oral presentation, Major Tests and Projects.
