CHD is a disease which institutes a waxy substance buildup

called plaque, which leads to the clogging of the coronary

arteries
Once arteries become clogged, oxygen flow to the heart is
greatly reduced and angina can occur

Angina is extreme chest pain or discomfort

Without proper treatment, CHD can lead to arrhythmias being
developed, heart attacks, and heart failure

Abnormal changes in your heart rate or blood pressure

Chest pain or shortness of breath
Arrhythmia or abnormal heart electrocardiogram
Reviews of past medical history and family history by physicians
is also an important indicator for coronary artery disease

Treatment for CHD can vary greatly. There are both exercise
treatments, surgical procedures, and certain medicines
Exercise treatments include cardio and weightlifting paired
along with a healthy diet
Medicines used for treatment for heart attack or heart failure
include ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, ARBs, calcium channel
blockers, and diuretics

Surgical procedures that have been proven to be

effective in treating CHD are bountiful
Some of the possible procedures include:

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

(angioplasty) which involves a thin balloon to
be threaded through a blood vessel into the
blocked artery and then inflated thus reducing
blockage

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting is a type of

surgery that involves removing arteries or
veins from another area of your body and
attaching them to your heart around the
narrowed coronary arteries

Cardiac Rehabilitation is something that can

be prescribed by a doctor to anyone who has
gone through any sort of heart trauma. It
involves developing an exercise program with
exercise specialists and adhering to that
program

Research into CHD is extremely important to both the field of

exercise science and medicine
With it being the number one killer, people should be educated on
how to best fight it and treat it
There are other benefits from attempting to prevent the
development of coronary heart disease such as creating a better
lifestyle for the self and preventing future medical conditions from
developing

Coronary heart disease is the most common disease

of the heart in people globally
CHD kills roughly 370,000 people in the US per year
For African Americans, CAD is 23.8% of all deaths, for
whites it is 23.8% of all deaths, and for Asians it is
22.2% of all deaths
A poor lifestyle or diet can result in the development of
CHD, but it can also develop from other risk factors
such as gender, age, and family genetics
With the development of modern day technology, a
epidemiologic shift from simple disease to chronic has
occurred
With this relatively new outbreak out chronic disease,
research into CHD has increased since it takes the
lead in number one cause of deaths worldwide
