Reyes, James 143377 Theology Orals Thesis Statements 1. Theology is the study of God; it is the attempt of Christians to understand God as he reveals himself in the Bible, through Traditions, and through Creation. It is a process of attempting to understand God who, being infinite, cannot be fully understood by human persons. 2. Faith is the act of believing in the hope of things that we have not yet received. It is the belief and the trust in God in all of his forms which stems from the idea that God is omnipotent and loving. 3. God calls the human person to existence; he called the greatest of his creations by name and invites the human person to join him in an intimate relationship. He also calls the human person to be his partner in being stewards over his creation. 4. Christians, through baptism, are called to reveal the Father to humankind in and through the name of Jesus Christ. It is the specification of our commitment to spread the Good News to all creation. 5. Vocation is where a persons true self meets what the world and humankind needs. It is where the self is satisfied with how one is living his or her life while living in a way that benefits the greater good of mankind. 6. Love is the process of fulfilling the role God has given to us in how to treat his creation. It involves the putting of someone else before oneself and it presumes a healthy sense of self regard, it must go beyond the self, it is not an obligation but a choice, it is committed, and it helps transform oneself into a better human being. 7. Love is Not just a mere feeling that is solely tied to emotions, which is usually fleeting and temporary. It is also not something can be fallen into automatically and become genuine instantly and without any effort as the misconception might suggest.
8.Love is dependency or parasitism where you cannot exist or function as a proper
human being without the partner. Cathexis, or the process of investing ones energies in a person without love or concern for their growth as a human being is a form of self-
sacrificing masochism which is to say, willingly allowing yourself to host a persons
parasitic behavior. 9.The image of God is key to how we respond to God, how we relate to other people and the way we live our lives. This image also helps us understand our true nature as people who take joy in giving, and receiving love in our lives. 10.In the bible, the images of God has varied throughout the old testament and then new testament ranging from what people pressumed to be the strict lawgiver, the judge, the tester to the master controller. It is important not to take these images of God, solely in themselves but to consider also the images that Jesus presents to us, such as the unconditionally loving father in the parable of the prodigal son or the shepherd who loves all inclusively all of his herd, especially the lost ones. 11.The gift of free choice is something distinctly human, where the goal is to live as God intended us to live, being in His image and likeness. The process of this is marked by the emotional drive to do good, the logical reasoning to do good, as well as making the right choice in order do good. 12. Virtues are essential traits or values that help our human morality develop and mature in our freedom.Human moral virtues are values or traits that help us achieve the good, as well as train us to act towards the good more often while Theological virtues work towards taking care of our relationship with God.
