Watercolors by Jan Welborn
SASi artists Darlene Godfrey and Jan
Welborn will lead us in painting our own miniature watercolor landscape. This is a free event. All supplies will be provided. Bring a friend and try this wonderful medium and be inspired by the paintings in the National Watercolor Traveling Exhibit on view thru Oct 30.

the workshop with a mixture of yellow ochre,
black & white. Thin with mineral spirits or Gamsol so it is more like watercolor. You should be staining the canvas not painting it. Keep it light in color. If you get too dark, wipe off your canvas with a paper towel.
SUPPLY LIST - What To Bring:
- Photo references, color / black & white (see Choosing A Photo To Paint From) - Pencils, ruler, t-square (if you have one) - Oil or acrylic paint supplies, brushes, palette, paper towels, etc. - For oil painting you must use odorless mineral spirits (thank you!) - Easel, table top or free standing - Recommended oil or acrylic colors: Titanium white, yellow ochre, cadmium red light, mars black, ultramarine blue - Canvas (I recommend an 11x14 canvas.) You can tone it 3 or 4 days before
Class Outline: My goal is to give
students a workable process for painting the portrait from a photograph. It is key to start with a good drawing or you will be frustrated to the bitter end. I will share some simple tips to get you off to a good start with the drawing. Next we will focus on shadow shapes and values before we finish up with color.

Class Outline: Artists will further develop
watercolor technique, accommodating individual skill levels, with emphasis on preliminary sketch. We will revisit common watercolor techniques and other non -conventional painting skills employing them to their works of art. We will use watercolor pencils as well as traditional watercolor pellets in the finished products. I will teach both representational and abstract styles. We will introduce pilot point pen and ink experimentally to your composition.

Class Outline: Introduction to drawing
concentrating on the fundamentals of: composition, line, value, perspective, shape, and mark making. The art works will reflect primarily representational drawing from observation and experimentation with mixed media.This is a three hour concentrated session that will give artists from all levels of expertise to better the technical application of the mental image to paper.

Drawing for Everyone
Students please come early to
your class so the instructor may start on time. Doors open 30 minutes prior to class for you to set up. Always be respectful of other students time and space and limit interruptions during the class. We want everyone to enjoy their time at SASi and create a warm environment that is conducive to creating and learning. Thank You!
SASI has table top easels for
students to use during classes. We also have some limited supplies on hand in case you are missing an item. Please ask if you need something. If you borrow an easel or brushes, please make sure items are cleaned thoroughly and put back in place. Donations are always welcome so we can have extra supplies on hand.
