Chief Ministers in India - GK in PDF

The Chief Ministers in India are the heads of their respective state
governments. There are Chief Ministers in India in every one of the twenty-nine
states and even in two Union Territories (Delhi and Puducherry).
Following elections to the state legislative assembly, the governor usually invites the
party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form the government in the state. The
governor appoints the chief minister, whose council of ministers are collectively
responsible to the assembly.

Some Trivia about Chief Ministers in India

Of the thirty-one possible states and union territories, five Chief Minister of
Indian States are women, namely - Anandiben Patel in Gujarat, Jayalalithaa in
Tamil Nadu, Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu
and Kashmir, and Vasundhara Raje in Rajasthan.

Sikkim's Pawan Kumar Chamling has the longest incumbency, serving since
December 1994 (for 21 years, 161 days).

Parkash Singh Badal (born 1927) of Punjab is the oldest of all chief ministers
in India.

Uttar Pradesh's Akhilesh Yadav (born 1973) is the youngest of all chief
ministers in India.
