Recap
Last week, we saw how many Israelites died because of the plague. God then directed David and
David went to the threshing floor of Araunah to make a sacrifice for the whole Israel. God heard his
prayers and stopped the plague.
Introduction
Actually, David’s lifetime hope was to build a holy temple for the Lord, his God. This was because the
people of Israel were often accused by the devil, Satan due to their weaknesses and sin and as a
result, they encountered many problems. But with a holy temple, whenever the people of Israel were
weak, they would be able to go to God’s temple to make a sacrifice. The Lord Jesus Christ’s precious
blood would wash them. They would then receive answered prayers and be set free from all their
problems. Therefore, when David made a sacrifice for the whole Israel, God heard his prayers and
stopped the plague. That was when David knew God’s intention, which was to build the Lord’s temple
at that place. In David’s heart, he knew that the Lord’s temple to be built must be the biggest, the
highest and the most beautiful. Therefore, he spent his lifetime to prepare the building of the holy
temple. He prepared priests who would make sacrifice for the Israelites; choirs that would sing and
play musical instruments and drums; a team that would clean up and guard the gates of the holy
temple, people who would take care of finance; lots of best quality gold, silver, bronze, metals and
wood to build the holy temple and all the items in the temple. He also established many caretakers
and officers of different levels of authority to look after the affairs of the holy temple and matters
concerning the whole Israel. Thereafter, the whole Israel would live according to the decrees,
stipulations and laws. Once David became King, these were what he had all prepared. After that, he
passed the job of building the holy temple to his son, Solomon to complete. Therefore, David spent
his lifetime and effort in teaching his son, Solomon regarding God’s words. He did all these according
to the Lord, his God’s instructions.

1. The Bible says, our life is God’s temple

1) Why was David’s lifetime hope to build a holy temple for the Lord, his God? Ans: This
was because David was one who was after God’s heart and he knew that God’s
greatest concern was His holy temple.
2) But to God, His greatest concern is not on the huge structure/ building but His
concern is on the real holy temple, which is our life. The Bible says, “Our body is a
temple of God because the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ lives in us.” Therefore,
God is always with us and He never leaves us. He loves and helps us daily, protects
us and gives us strength to bless the people beside us like our friends, parents and
brothers and sisters.
3) Since God is living in us, are we able to see, hear and talk to Him daily? Do we see
how God loves us daily through the love of our parents, teachers and friends? Do we
enjoy praying to Him? God has entered:
- therefore, whatever problems we encounter, we need not be afraid. We just need to
pray because God will help us
- therefore, when we are weak and sin, we should be like David, and go before the
Lord to admit our mistakes and repent, and God will forgive us
2. When people who believe and know Jesus Christ come together, they form God’s
holy temple (i.e. church)
1) God told David to build a holy temple which was to represent another thing, i.e. the
church. The church is a place where people who believe and know Jesus Christ
come together to listen to God’s words, pray together, live together, help one another,
play together and attend Sunday school together.
2) Therefore, when David built the holy temple, he prepared offerings, choir, treasurers,
caretakers etc for the purpose that God’s words may be spread. When the Lord’s
people come together to worship God, listen to His words and pray to God, God will
answer their prayers and chase away all their enemies (problems).
3) Therefore, God looks with importance our weekly attendance in Sunday school. This
is because through the time spent in Sunday school, God used the teachers to tell us
about His words and how He greatly works in our lives. Therefore, we too must look
with importance and not miss or be late for Sunday school. We should sleep early on
Saturday night and wake up early on Sunday (and not watch television programs).
When we give the best to God, He will then give us the best too.

3. God’s holy temple is to be built the highest, biggest and most beautiful
1) God does not just want us to praise with our mouth that Jesus Christ is our Lord, but
in our hearts, we also regard Jesus as our Lord daily. When we wake up in the
morning each day, we should first pray before we go through the day; when
problems come, we do not just use our brains to solve the problem but to pray even
more to seek Him.
2) God does not just want us to know that He lives in us. This is because our lives are
created by Him and He lives in us. Therefore, He also wants us to love ourselves.
[Children, do we love ourselves? Do we love our appearance? When we are weak
and mischievous, do we still love ourselves? When everyone dislikes us, do we still
love ourselves?] Not matter what, the Lord Jesus loves us!
3) God does not just want us to be conscientious in attending Sunday school, but to ask
us to put our heart, soul and power to love the friends beside us because they are
also loved by God. God arranged for us to be together so that we can put up a fight
together to defeat Satan. Therefore, when our friends beside us encounter things
that make them unhappy, are we willing to pray for them and help them?
