INSTRUCTION GUIDE

2010 CONTROL SL FRONT HUB BEARING REPLACEMENT


THIS INSTRUCTION GUIDE CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND STORE IN A SAFE PLACE.
This instruction guide must be used in conjunction with the Control SL Bearing Replacement Tool Set. The procedure outlined
in this instruction guide can be used in conjunction with the video, which can be viewed at http://service.specialized.com/
collateral/control_sl_brngreplace/.

may result in serious personal injury or death.
WARNING! This task requires training and experience. Do not attempt installation of any component if you do not have experience and
training as a bicycle mechanic. Failure to follow this warning may result in serious personal injury or death.
WARNING! Failure to follow the torque specifications in this instruction guide may result in damage to the hub and/or its components which may

BEARING REPLACEMENT
REMOVING THE CURRENT BEARINGS

1. Remove both end caps.


2. Insert the narrow end of punch tool (K) through the disc side of the hub, making sure that its
properly seated.
3. Tap the punch tool with a mallet (A) to remove the axle and non-disc side bearing.
4. Turn the wheel around and insert the punch tool into the non-disc side of the hub, wide end
first.
5. Tap the punch tool with a mallet to remove the disc side bearing.

Insert the reamer (C) into the non-disc side of the hub. Insert the 28mm bearing press through
the disc side of the hub and screw it into the reamer.
Screw the nut onto the bearing press (J). It should protrude through the reamer (C).
Use the wrenches (L & M) and tigthen the nuts snugly.
Remove the nut from the reamer. Place the reamer pulling tool (B) on top of the reamer, lining
up the holes. Insert the M5/4mm hex bolts (G) through the reamer pulling tool and tighten them
snugly.
Insert the M10/8mm hex bolt (F) into the reamer pulling tool (B) and tighten until the 28mm
bearing press tool slides out from the disc side of the hub.
Remove the M10/8mm and M5/4mm hex bolts from the reamer pulling tool.
Leave the reamer on and insert the steer dowel (H) into the disc side of the hub.
Place the reamer pulling tool on the disc side of the hub. Line up the two holes with the disc
rotor holes on the hub. Insert the two M5/4mm hex bolts and tighten snugly.
Screw the M10/8mm hex bolt into the reamer pulling tool. Tighten the bolt until the reamer can
be removed.
Remove the reamer pulling tool and steel dowel.
INSTALLING THE NEW BEARINGS

16. Place the bearing on one end of the axle and slide the axle into the hub. Seat the bearing
snugly into the bearing race and insert the bearing into the other side of the hub, making sure
the axle and bearing interface snugly.
17. Slide the 27mm bearing press (I) through the disc side of the axle. Place the bearing press cup
over the axle then screw on the bearing press nut. Make sure the bearing press cup seaats
snugly onto the bearing before tightening the bearing press nut.
18. Use the wrenches (L & M) and tigthen the nuts snugly.
19. Loosen the bearing press nuts, then remove the bearing press cup and bearing press.
20. Install the end caps.
