Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year!
In the spring of this year, your student will be taking the New York State English as a
Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT).
In compliance with District 75, I will be assigning ESL homework that is designed to
help your student prepare for the NYSESLAT exam.
How you can help your student with ESL homework:
Review key academic vocabulary words and phrases with your
student. These terms are being taught through NYSAAaligned content areas (science and social studies) in ESL
class.
Ask your student to verbally describe the provided photo in as
much detail as possible.
Ask your student questions about the photo (example: Where
do you think the people in the photo are going? How do you
think this person is feeling in the photo and why?)
*If your student is nonverbal, please read the directions to your student and ask them
to point to different objects within the photo.
*If your student is able to write, please read the directions to your students, ask them
to write a description of the photo and send it back to school with them by Friday.

De parte del grupo de ESL queremos desearle un Feliz Ao Nuevo!
En la primavera de este ao, su hijo(a) esta programado(a) a participar en el Examen
de Rendimiento de Ingls como Segundo Idioma para el Estado de Nueva York
(NYSESLAT).
En cumplimiento con las regulaciones del Distrito 75, nosotros le estaremos
asignando a su hijo(a) tarea de Ingls como Segundo Idioma para ayudarlo(a) a
prepararse para el Examen de Rendimiento de Ingls como Segundo Idioma para el
Estado de Nueva York (NYSESLAT).
Como puede usted ayudar a su hijo(a) con la tarea de Ingls como Segundo Idioma:
Repase las palabras y frases claves parte del vocabulario
acadmico con su hijo(a). Este vocabulario actualmente se
esta enseando en la clase de Ingls como Segundo Idioma a
travz de las areas de contenido (Ciencias y Estudios
Sociales) relacionadas con la prueba NYSAA (Evaluacin
Alternativa del Estado de Nueva York).
Pidale a su hijo(a) que verbalmente le describa la fotografa
incluida con el mayor detalle posible.
Preguntele a su hijo(a) preguntas sobre la fotografa (Por
ejemplo: Que crees que las personas en la fotografa estan
haciendo? Cual es tu tu forma de pensar con respecto a como
se ha de sentir la persona que aparece en la fotografa y la
razn del porqu)
*Si su hijo(a) no es verbal, favor de leerle las direcciones de como hacer la tarea y
pedirle que seale los diferentes objetos que aparecen en la fotografa.
* Si su hijo(a) es capaz de escribir, favor de leerle las direcciones, pedirle que
escriba una descripcion sobre la fotografa, y que la lleven consigo a la escuela los
viernes de cada semana.
