Recommendations and Limitations

The following recommendations and limitations should be taken into
consideration before performing any of the WALKair system acceptance test
procedures:

The basic acceptance test should be performed only after a link has been
established between the Base station and the Terminal.

The Service acceptance test should be performed only after service is

configured as well as peripheral equipment.

The acceptance test should be performed during good weather conditions to

prevent and/or neutralize rain influence on radio link performance
observations (this is relevant for the downlink measurements).

It is highly recommended for the first link that is established with a new
BU-BS to have a Full LOS (this is relevant for 3.5 GHz RF heads)in order to
have a good reference.
IMPORTANT NOTE:

Record the serial number of each item of installed equipment, to allow for better system
maintenance and handling. See TS-BU Acceptance Tests, page 20, for more information.

Chapter 2: Execution of WALKair Basic Acceptance Procedures

Radio Link Acceptance Test

General description:

The objective of this test is to check the quality

of the radio link. Passing this test is crucial for
the assurance of service availability and error
free traffic.
Perform this procedure after establishing a link
with a terminal according to the radio planning.
This test can be performed remotely from the
Network Operation Centre.

Required equipment:

PC with WALKnet version greater than 4.2.

Required documentation:

WALKnet User Manual, WALKnet Operation

Manual.

Prerequisites:

It is required that the installation personnel will

hold information of the expected Rx and Tx
power levels and C/I values of the Terminal at
the customer site. This is acquired by using:

The Free Space fade margin formula and

adding the antenna gains See Appendix A
Free Space Link Budget Calculation

Acquiring the information from the systems

radio planner.

Short Term Test

The short term test is to check the air performance immediately after
commissioning and can be performed locally by the commissioner or remotely
from the network operation centre using WALKnet, while the
commissioner/installer is still in the site for any case of trouble shooting.
Completing this test approves the commissioning of a newly installed terminal;
to assure the overall performance, the overnight test should be performed.

Performing the Short Term test by WALKnet:

1

Verify that the IP address of your PC is authorized to access to the BU-BS

(the authorized manager from the LCI administrative parameters).

Connect your PC to the ETH port of the BU-BS with a cross cable (or a direct
cable via the hub).

Run the WALKnet software.

Enter the Utilities Menu, and select SNMP parameters.

Enter the Performance Menu, and select Air> Detailed Air Performance.

Verify that the Rx power accuracy is in accordance with the site radio plan as
following (if it is not, refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for the Terminal):

Phases of verification:
1

Make sure that the Received Power in the Terminal and the

Transmitted power of the Terminal are according to the expected

one according to the radio planning. (See prerequisites). Any
variation of more than 5 dB from the expected power levels is not
accepted and should not be approved. Such a link may affect the
adjacent Cells and Links and will cause link degradations.
2

Within the 15 minutes of test no bit errors should be observed,

therefore the FER (Frame Error Rate should be zero as well.

Only after making sure that the power levels are within the
approved limits, the SNR measurement should be applied. The
expected measured SNR levels in the Ts BU should be derived
from the next table assisting with the calculated C/I figure given
by radio planning results.

The deviation of real figures should not exceed 5dB. In such case please consult with
Engineering department.

Over Night Radio Link Test

Running the overnight test should in conjunction with the short term test had
passed. It is recommended to perform this test as the customer already
connected to live traffic so that the statistics will be correct. The concept of the
test is to view 24 hours retrospectively the radio performance and assure its
stability.

Performing the Short Term test by WALKnet:

Using WALKnet SW repeat the previous test only that now the selected period is
15 Minutes Intervals of the last 24 hours.
Verify the following:

UL/DL Frame Error Rate is lower than 10e-6

Make sure that the Received Power in the Terminal and the

Transmitted power of the Terminal are according to the expected

one according to the radio planning. (See prerequisites). Any
variation of more than 5 dB from the expected power levels is not
accepted and should not be approved. Such a link may affect the
adjacent Cells and Links and will cause link degradations.

Chapter 2: Execution of WALKair Basic Acceptance Procedures

Chapter 3: Execution of WALKair

Tests by Type of Service
The WALKair Service acceptance test procedures should be performed after
commissioning of a new service or after equipment replacement following an
equipment malfunctions.
The Service acceptance test is divided into modular procedures that are relevant
for different system services. Table 2 describes which test procedures should be
performed, according the applied service. Unlike the basics tests these tests will
provide quality measures indicating the operability/inoperability of the service
features and not quantity measures such as performance.
To assure error free service and not to mistaken the results, this test should be
performed after the basic had tests passed successfully.

As soon as the service is applied and expected to be working properly, perform

the following for every leased line service:

Physical Layer status check

Verify that the green L.E.D located on the right side of the

E1/V35 interface is continuously green. Do the same for BS and

TS BUs.

Verify the same on the telecom equipment on base and terminal

sides

Using the LCI at the TS or HPOV from management station,

make sure there is not any active alarm related to the telecom
port with the service assigned.
2

Connectivity Tests - If data is flowing over the service verify the

connectivity of the application from BS to TS side and vice versa, if

the service is IP check pinging. If voice is flowing over the service
check call establishment between BS and TS.
3

General Verifications

In case Fractional E1 is in use, verify that the zero time slot is

not assigned to any of the terminal stations.

Make sure the whole TS BUs associated to the same BS BU have

only one clock source.

Appendix A Free Space Link Budget Calculation

Calculating Down Link Received power (the power received by the terminal and
the Up link Transmit power (The power transmitted by the terminal ) is done by
the following formulas:

DL Rx sig = PBase Tx + GBase Antenna - 92.5 - 20*log(D[Km]*f[[GHz]) + GTerminal Antenna

UL TX sig = PBase Rx - GBase Antenna + 92.5 + 20*log(D[Km]*f[[GHz]) - GTerminal Antenna
Where:
PBase Rx = Nominal Rx power of the Base station (default values).
PBase Tx = Nominal Tx power of the Base station (default values).
f[[GHz] = RF band frequency in GHz, for example, 3.5,10.5 or 26.
