Overview

Installation Guide

Some typical uses are:

Displaying or controlling of all System 7000 points on the Controller LAN once the
database has been defined and the HC7410 has been connected to a 7400, 7440, 7450
DCU, or 7460 UCI.
Programming of non-volatile random access memory (NOVRAM) for output failsafes as well as communication parameters in the local DCU, or TAP. The Model
HC7410 Hand-Held Console provides the only means of accomplishing this.
Initiating a test of all memory in the local DCU or UCI.
Disabling automatic control on points in the local DCU, UCI, or UC.
Placing points in a test mode in the local DCU or UCI and UC for application
program check-out.
Displaying random access memory (RAM) statistics, microprocessor utilization
time, and I/NET LAN utilization time for the local DCU or UCI.
Displaying and setting the date or time in the local DCU or UCI.

Notation and Key Conventions

Throughout this guide single keystrokes or named function keys on the keypad are
shown in the text in boldface between square brackets. When the text instructions refer
to press the On function key it is shown as Press [ON]. Data entry for decimal or hexadecimal is shown between quote marks.

LED Presentation
When connected to a DCU or UCI, the normal presentation on the LED display is the
time in 24-hour military format, e.g., 1:00 P.M. is 130000. The first two numbers are the
hour, the second pair are the minutes, and the last pair are the seconds. When connected
to a UC or LTS80U, the normal presentation is UC, indicating connection has been
made to a unitary controller. In either case, when a key is pressed, the display changes to
zeroes in anticipation of further input. When a key sequence is completed or aborted, the
display returns to time or to UC. A key sequence is aborted at any time by pressing the
[CLEAR] key. Negative numeric values are displayed with a minus sign,

Installation

Installation
Connecting to Controllers
The hand-held console receives its power from the DCU or UCI that it is connect to. A
silver coiled cord six feet in length is used to make the connection (P/N 602135-0003; no
tag). One end of the cord is plugged into the port on the Model HC7410 hand-held
console while the other end is plugged into the console port of the DCU or UCI (see
Figure 2).

Connecting to a UCs
You can plug the hand-held console into the LAN A or LAN B Communications port of
a unitary controller. A black coiled cord six feet in length is used to make the connection
(P/N 606014-0001; tagged: Console-1). You must sever (unplug) communications
between the UCI and UC before plugging the HC7410 at this location. One end of the
cord is plugged into the port on the HC7410 while the other end is plugged into the
appropriate port of the individual UC (see Figure 2).

Connecting to A LTS80U
The hand-held console can also be connected to the maintenance connector in the
LTS80U Space Sensor Assembly. A straight silver cord, two feet in length, is used to make
this connection (P/N 606014-0003; tagged: Console-3). Plug one end of the cord into the
port on the HC7410, and the other end into the maintenance port on the bottom of the
sensor assembly (see Figure 2). When the HC7410 is plugged into the LTS80U space
sensor port, communications between the UCI and UC are also automatically interrupted. Access to this connector is prohibited, unless the sensor cover is removed.

Operation

Installation Guide

Operation
DCU and UCI point related key sequences require a point type and a six digit point
address. The point type is one of the keys: DI, DO, ACC, DGI, DGO, AI, or AO. The point
address, SSPPBB, consists of a station number, SS, point number, PP, and bit offset, BB.
The value for the station number is 0 through 63. The value for the point number is 0
through 31. The value for the bit offset is 0 through 7 for input points and 0 for output
points.
UC point related key sequences (assuming that a connection to a UC or LTS80U sensor
has been made) require a point type and a single digit point address. The point type is one
of the keys: DI, DO, AI, or AO. The point address B is the bit offset of the point address
(see previous paragraph). The value for the bit offset is 0 through 7 for all input or
output points.
Points in other DCUs or UCIs on the same I/NET Local Area Network (LAN) can be
monitored or controlled when the HC7410 console is connected to a Model 7400, 7440,
or 7450 DCU, or Model 7460 UCI. These points must be previously defined in the DCU
or UCI using a host computer. Points in other DCUs or UCIs may not be controlled or
monitored when the Model HC7410 Hand-Held Console is connected to a Model 7300
or Model 7301 DCU, Series 7200 UC, or LTS80U Sensor Assembly.

Single Key Functions

Input and Output Information

The blue numeric keys, and the blue and black dual function keys are used to specify
decimal or hexadecimal values. The value entered through the HC7410 may be digital,
analog or discrete input, digital, analog or discrete output.

Digital Input and Output Data

A digital input represents eight bits of data, 0-255, collected from eight contiguous
discrete input points, or it stores a 16 bit value, 0 - 65535, in memory. A digital output
presents eight bits of binary data, 0-255, to eight contiguous discrete output points or it
stores a 16 bit value, 0 - 65535, in memory.

Analog Input and Output Data

An analog input obtains twelve bits of binary data, 0-4095, from an analog to digital
convertor in the DCU or it stores a 16 bit value, 0 - 65535, in memory. The range in the
UCI is 8 bit or 0-255. An analog output presents eight bits of binary data, 0-255 in the
UCI or DCU, or ten bits of binary data in a Model 4300, 4301, or 4310 DCU, 0-1023, to
a digital to analog converter, or it stores a 16 bit value, 0 - 65535, in memory.

Discrete Input and Output Data

A discrete input collects up to three bits of binary data, 0-7, from three contiguous
discrete input points or it stores a three bit value in memory. A discrete output presents
one bit of binary data, 0-1, to a discrete output point, or it stores a one bit value in
memory.

Accumulator Point Data

An accumulator monitors one bit of data, 0-1, and increases by one each 0 to 1 bit change
or it stores a value 1032 with six significant digits in memory.

Key Sequences for the UC or LTS80U

While the HC7410 functions in a similar manner for DCU, UCI, Tap and the UC and
LTS80U, there are a few subtle differences that are peculiar to the UC and LST80U. These
differences are because the UC has reduced capabilities compared to the DCU and UCI.
Refer to Key Functions for the UC or LTS80U on page 8 for key functions specific to
the UC or LTS80U.
The following key function sequences are valid for the unitary controller. These are
slightly different than those used to control the DCU, UCI, and Tap, and there are fewer
sequences due to the reduced capability of unitary controller compared to the full function DCU.

Input Output Data from the UC or LTS80U

The Input/Output data has some differences from that in a DCU, Tap or UCI. While it
is minor, the differences can mean the difference between an operation succeeding or
failing.

Analog Input/Output Data

An analog input obtains eight bits of binary data, 0-255, from an analog to digital
convertor in the UC or it stores a 16 bit value, 0 - 65535, in memory. An analog output
presents eight bits of binary data, 0-255 to a digital to analog converter, or it stores a 16
bit value, 0 - 65535, in memory.

Discrete Input/Output Data

A discrete input collects up to three bits of binary data, 0-7, from three contiguous
discrete input points or it stores a three bit value in memory. A discrete output presents
one bit of binary data, 0-1, to a discrete output point, or it stores a one bit value in
memory.

Care Instructions
Locate the unit away from fluorescent lights, heating devices, and other appliances that
transmit electrical or radio frequency noise.
Place the unit in a vibration-free environment and out of direct sunlight.
Avoid dropping or knocking the unit.
Dust the unit regularly. Wipe the exposed parts with a soft damp cloth. Do not use detergents and avoid excess moisture.
