Race Update - from Erik Paulsen for Congress:

Three respected ratings analysts (Cook Political Report, Rothenberg/Gonzales Political
Report and Larry Sabatos Crystal Ball) recently downgraded Erik Paulsens race from
Safe Republican to Lean Republican.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has added Democratic
challenger State Senator Terri Bonoff to their Red to Blue program for top-tier
challengers.
As of late May, Democrats (between the DCCC and Pelosis House Majority PAC)
have reserved over $6.4 million in TV time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul media market.
Rothenberg/Gonzales Political Report:
Democrats are trying to expand the House of Representatives playing field by
targeting suburban districts and they believe State Senator Terri Bonoff pulls this race
into play. She dropped out of the 2008 race after young Iraq War veteran Ashwin
Madia won the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Partys endorsement, but shes back in 2016.
Party strategists are excited by Bonoffs fundraising which brought in over $600,000
in the 2nd quarter. Paulsen announced his campaign raised over $1 million in the 2nd
quarter and has over $2 million cash on hand advantage. The district is competitive
enough (Obama won 50 to 49 in 2012) and Trump is toxic enough for this seat to be
considered in play. Were moving from Safe GOP to Republican Favored. (14 July
2016)
The Five Seats that Could Signal a Democrat House Majority in 2016
Rep. Erik Paulsen, Minnesota's Third District: The western suburbs of Minneapolis
have been held by a Republican since the '60s. They've sent their current member of
Congress, Paulsen, to Washington every two years since 2008. But this area has drifted
to the left in recent years, and its voters tend to be more highly educated than the
average Trump supporter. Outside groups are watching and waiting to see if state
Sen. Terri Bonoff (D) can get some momentum and/or there's an indication Paulsen
will get dragged down by Trump. (So far, he's tried to keep his head down, saying he
"expects to vote for the nominee.") If this seat moves, it could happen quickly:
Democratic abortion-rights group Emily's List is talking to Bonoff, and Democratic
super PAC House Majority PAC has reserved airtime in nearby Minneapolis that
could be used to chase this seat. A. Phillips, The Washington Post (10 June 2016)
