Preventive Med
Newborn Screening done after 24hrs of life but not later
than 72 days
o If ICU-admitted is exempted, but must be tested by
7 days of age
If discharged < 48hrs after delivery, ff consult must be
made within 48hrs after discharge
Refer to Ophtha for any of the ff findings:
1. Poor response/asymmetry
2. Jiggly and misaligned eyes
3. Droopy eyelids
4. Eye discharge
5. Non-reactive pupil
6. Red eye or dry frothy conjunctivae
7. Opacities
8. Absent/dull or asymmetric ROR
Supplementation
1. IRON
If Low Birth Weight
Dose/Duration: 0.3mL OD to start at 2 mos until 6
mos when complementary foods are given
Preparation: Drops (15 mg elemental Fe/ 0.6 mL)

Red Flag signs of Atopy:
1. FMH of Atopy (BA, Atopic Derm, AR, Drug/Food
allergy)
2. Recurrent/persistent symptoms of 1 or more
3. GI symptoms: colic, diarrhea, vomiting, bleeding
4. Skin rash
5. Ocular Symptoms: bluish/brownish discoloration,
puffiness under eyes, red and teary eyes
Preventive Med
Routine BP measuring starting 3 years old
1. Pre-Hyp: average SBP or DBP equal to or greater
than 90th but less than 95th percentile
2. Hyp: average SBP and/or DBP equal to or greater
than 95th percentile on 3 or more occasions
Supplementation
1. IRON
Children 1 5 years old
Dose/Duration; 1 tsp OD for 3 mos or 30mg once a
week for 6 mos with supervised administration
Preparation: Syrup (30 mg elemental Fe/ 0.6 mL)
2. VITAMIN A
Dose/Duration; 1 capsule every 6 mos
Preparation: 200,000 IU
Deworming (DOH AO 2010-0023), done for all children
aged 12 mos to 14 years old
1. Albendazole
a. 12 mos to 24 mos: 200 mg, single dose every
6 months
b. 24 mos and above: 400 mg, single dose every
6 months

BP levels equal to or greater than 120/80 mmHg should
be considered prehypertensive
Deworming (DOH AO 2010-0023), done for all children
aged 12 mos to 14 years old

b. 24 mos and above: 400 mg, single dose every
6 months
2. Mebendazole

3. Contraindications
a. Severe malnutrition
b. High grade fever
c. Profuse diarrhea
d. Abdominal pain
e. Serious illness
f. Hypersensitivity to deworming drug
Exercise or age-appropriate activities for 60 mins daily
or on most days of the week
Discourage prolonged periods of sedentary activity
(greater than 2 hours per day)
