0 ABSTRACT
Renewable power generation can help countries meet their sustainable development goals
through provision of access to clean, secure, reliable and affordable energy (IRENA, 2012).
Electricity is widely used by us, everywhere and almost all the time. Water is another important
resource produced by the earth. Although 70% of the earth is made out of water, there are only a
small amount which are able to be consumed. Water is used for the industry, domestic purposes,
to generate electricity and etc. However, water crisis issues have worsened recently. There are
lots of campaigns to save water and also electricity however what we really need is an invention
which could mitigate these two problem.
Malaysia is located at Southern Asia, near the earth equator and the climate has been hot
and humid throughout the year. The sun shines brightly, but in the same day, there is possibility
it might rain heavily as well due to the formation of Cumulonimbus cloud. We took this
opportunity and came out with solar powered rain water harvesting system (SPOR-E), to solve
water crisis, environment and living cost issues. A solar panel will be installed in a house, to
generate electricity for the household and at the same time to operate SPOR-E, a rain water
harvesting system. The water collected will be used for external purposes.
Theoretically, using SPOR-E will reduces the usage of water, generate electricity and
both of these will help to reduce the living cost. Reducing electricity usage will help reduce our
carbon footprint and thus can help preserve the environment (Parkes, Kershaw, Shibille & Grant,
2010). Some modification and innovation will be further made to ensure the prototype works
efficiently. To conclude, our team believes that SPOR-E is a great project that will help benefit
mankind
