Event-based Networked Islanding Detection for Distributed Solar PV Generation

Systems
This paper proposes an event-based networked set-membership filtering method to
detect islanding fault for distributed grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) generation
systems. The method enables each set-membership filter to offer an ellipsoidal
estimation set, which is used to judge whether or not the islanding fault happens. When
islanding fault happens, the intersection of the ellipsoids is empty, and when islanding
fault is free, the intersection of the ellipsoids is non-empty. It is provided a novel eventbased networked set membership filtering method for the islanding fault detection in the
distributed grid-connected solar PV generation system. Using this method can
successfully detect the islanding fault, and can save resources and energy of the
network maintaining the performance of estimation. A simulation experiment and a
comparative experiment are provided using Sim-Power-Systems implementation based
on a 2-kW single-phase grid-connected power generation system to illustrate the
effectiveness of the proposed method for the detection of the islanding fault and the
reduction of the resource consumption respectively. [1]
Implementation of Fuzzy Logic in shunt Active Power Filter for Renewable Power
Generation System
Shunt active power filter (SAPF) is a modern methodology for the power
compensation .The primary focus of this paper is to eliminate the total harmonics
distortions (THD) from the power system buses by implementing fuzzy logic control
technique in the controller. This is compared with predictive control technique in the PID
type controller with Non linear loads (RL, DC motor and Induction Motor). Introducing
renewable power generations systems (Wind energy, solar energy) as external power
supply for power compensation redefine the modern power transmission systems. In
this work fuzzy logic controller was developed and verified for three phase four wire
systems in renewable power generation systems. Even though PID controllers using
predictive control technique are capable of compensating current harmonics in 3 phase
4-wire systems, it can be seen that the Fuzzy Logic controller has a better dynamic
performance than the conventional PID controller. Using of three leg voltage source
inverter(VSI) as power converter posses less harmonics at load side compare to other
converters. The voltage regulations and power quality in the bus bars is improved only
after power compensations. [2]

Techno-Economic Analysis of Hybrid Power Systems for a Residential Building in

Zabol, Iran
This article investigates the possibility of providing electricity from hybrid systems for
residential building in Zabol city, Iran. All the necessary modeling, simulation, and
techno-economic evaluation are carried out using the assessment software package
HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable). Thousands of cases have
been conducted to gain an optimal independent system configuration, in terms of
system net present cost (NPC) and cost of energy (COE). The obtained results indicate
that the most economic hybrid power system is a diesel-wind turbine with battery
storage with COE of 0.225 US$/kWh and NPC of US$888,500 for supplying the
residential buildings electrical energy demand. The feasibility of hybrid systems
comprised of a diesel generator, batteries, wind turbines and PVs, has been assessed
to meet the energy requirements of a residential building in Zabol. The costs of hybrid
systems combined with a diesel generator are proportionally lower than systems without
diesel generator, considering the penalty costs of emission production. [3]
The control strategy for a hybrid wind-photovoltaic system with compressed air
storage element
In this paper a short description of operating principle of photovoltaic and wind power
systems and importance of twinning this two clean and renewable sources are cited.
Because the global energy demand increases more and more, and the increasing
scarcity of fossil energy sources in the near future is predictable, so the progress of
renewable energy especially solar and wind become increasingly competitive in terms
of technology production and costs , the wind-solar hybrid systems permit offsetting the
intermittent nature of renewable sources and provide a higher overall energy efficiency,
their primary interest is the possibility of energy autonomy because they do not rely on a
single source. They can solve a lot of energetic problems if they are associated with a
storage system, the selected storage system is the storage form of compressed air
(CAES: compressed air energy storage). The main idea of CAES for is the storage of
electrical energy by compressed air is to implement a wind turbine plant and a
photovoltaic array as a source of energy coupled with two pneumatic machines: the first
is a compressor driven by an electric motor and the second is an compressed air motor
which drives in turn an alternator during windy period the turbine directly supplies the
isolated site electricity and Surplus energy will be used by the electric motor to drive the
compressor to recharge the compressed air resrvoires ,in the absence of wind turbine,
energy photovoltaic array will follow the same principle, in the absence of the two
energy sources compressed air will be relaxed in the compressed air motor which will
drive in turn the generator to supply electricity at the isolated site. [4]

A High Step-Down DC-DC Converter with Low Switch Voltage Stress and
Extremely Low Output Current Ripple
In this paper, an interleaved high step-down DC DC converter with low switch voltage
stress is proposed. It provides an extended duty cycle for switches and also, the voltage
stress across two switches and two diodes is one fourth of the input voltage and for the
other semiconductor elements is smaller than half of the input voltage. It is also has
many advantages like improved step-down conversion ratio, extremely low output
current ripple and low switching losses. This voltage stress is much lower than that of
conventional interleaved buck which makes it possible to use switches and diodes with
lower voltage rating. As a results both switching and conduction losses, can be reduced
and consequently the overall efficiency can be improved. All these benefit are obtained
without applying additional stress on active components or using transformers. The
simulation results based on a 480W, 400 to 48 V dc/dc prototypes verify the
effectiveness of the theoretical analysis. [5]
