First Quarter

Learning More About Growth and Development

Lesson 1: Growth and Development during Adolescent Year

On page 251, its the first page in First Quarter about Health. Its good that the topics
are listed there. The language that used there is appropriate for the grade level.
On page 252, theres a Word Hunt activity to be answered by the students. We found it
difficult for their level, because there are no lists of words that they need to hunt.
On page 253, theres a chart about the Stages of Growth and Development. The words
that are written in the chart are not that clear. We suggest that the letters must be bigger
so that it can be read easily.
On pages 254-255, the lesson there is about Changes in the Health Dimension during
Adolescence. The book uses pictures to show changes that occur to the body.
Illustration must be whole body picture of girl or boy to clearly show the changes that
happens during adolescence stage.
The Filipino Pyramid Activity Guide on page 259, the words that are written there are
too small. We had a hard time in reading it because the texts there are too small. We
suggest that the text must be bigger.

Second Quarter

Learning More about Nutrition

Lesson 2: Nutrition and Adolescence

On page 267, its the first page in Second Quarter about Health. Its good that the topics
are listed there. The language that used there is appropriate for the grade level.
Introduction to Nutrition on page 268, the explanation about the topic itself is clear. Our
comment is that, we think that the content of this topic is sufficient for the students.
Daily Nutritional Guide Pyramid for Filipino on page 269, the pictures and texts inside
the pyramid are very small. The students may have a hard time in reading the texts. We
strongly suggest that the pyramid must be bigger so that the texts and picture inside will
be clearer.
On pages 270-271, there are questions there like what are the negative effects of
malnutrition among adolescents? and example of answer there is delay in the
development of secondary sexual characteristics. We think that the answer on the book
must have explanation, because the students may not understand it. We suggest that it
must have an explanation or it should be elaborated.
The activity on pages 276-280, our comment is that the instructions of each activity are
good. And the activities are appropriate for the level of the students. There are activities
that are suit different intelligence and learning styles for learners.

Third Quarter

Learning More about Personal Health

Lesson 3: Personal and Mental Health

On page 282, its the first page in Third Quarter about Health. Its good that the topics
are listed there. The language that used there is appropriate for the grade level. And its
good that theres an activity like brainstorming, asking the students words that will
describe Mental Health.
On pages 283-285, we observed that the definition of terms there were suitable and it
reflect some of philosophy of Health Education as expressed by World Health
Organization. The Significant Stressors among Adolescents Life Events, the following
phrases there must be explained so that students may not be confused, because some
of the words there are not appropriate.
On pages 289-290, we want to know if what is the basis of the five stages of the grief.
We want to know if how did the book come up with this five stages. Because for us Its
about emotion, we cant tell what are going to feel when we are on that situation. Thats
why we want to know the basis of the stages in the book. Because the students may
believe everything that is written on the book.
Types of Mental Disorder on pages 291-292, our comment is that the topic must be
explained well and more elaborated, so that it will be easier to understand.

Fourth Quarter

Learning more about Non-communicable Diseases

Lesson 4: Prevention and Control of Diseases and Disorders (Non-communicable
and Lifestyle Diseases)

On page 298, its the first page in Fourth Quarter about Health. Its good that the topics
are listed there. The language that used there is appropriate for the grade level. And its
good that theres an activity like brainstorming, asking the students words that will
describe Diseases.
Common Non-communicable Diseases on pages 299-307, concepts were presented
clear. But some or the words that are used are not appropriate for the level of the
students. Some of the sample pictures are very small. We suggest that the picture must
be bigger so that it will be clear and easier to be seen by the students.
On pages 311-314, the activities there are interesting to learners. The suggested
materials are easily available.
