Discussion2(Analyzing2Results):!
1.!Based!on!the!reading!from!your!graduated!cylinder,!is!a!beaker!suitable!for!measuring!45!mL!of!water?!
I!think!that!you!can!measure!45mL!of!water!using!a!beaker!because!from!my!data,!I!used!a!beaker!to!measure!45mL!of!
water,!and!when!I!pour!it!to!the!graduated!cylinder!it!turns!out!to!be!44mL.!It!is!quite!near!to!what!I!want.!On!the!other!
hand,!if!you!really!want!exact!45mL,!you!probably!should!use!a!graduated!cylinder!instead!of!a!beaker.!
2.!Based!on!the!reading!from!your!graduated!cylinder,!is!a!beaker!suitable!for!measuring!7!mL!of!water?!
I!guess!you!could!use!a!beaker,!but!it!would!not!be!accurate.!I!used!a!beaker!to!measure!7mL!of!water,!but!when!I!pour!it!
to!the!graduated!cylinder,!I!got!6.6mL.!In!my!opinion,!using!a!beaker!you!must!be!a!person!that!can!make!a!very!good!
prediction.!Since!the!beaker!doesnt!give!you!numbers!near!7!at!all.!I!think!it!is!better!to!use!a!graduated!cylinder!to!
measure!7mL!of!water,!a!beaker!would!probably!be!to!risky!to!measure!exactly!7mL!of!water.!
!
!
3.!When,!if!ever,!would!you!use!a!beaker!to!measure!volume!of!a!liquid!in!an!experiment?!
I!think!you!should!use!a!beaker!to!measure!volume!of!a!liquid!of!an!experiment!when!the!amount!of!the!liquid!that!you!
want!to!measure!second!digit!ends!with!0!or!5.!Since,!most!beakers!usually!have!a!line!that!will!accurately!measure!volume!
of!liquids!ending!with!zeroes!or!fives.!Also,!a!beaker!would!be!a!good!option!if!you!have!to!pour!the!liquid!to!other!
containers.!
!
4.!Which!cylinder!(50mL!or!10mL)!or!buret!measured!more!accurately?!Explain!in!detail.!
I!think!that!the!cylinder!(50mL)!measured!more!accurately!because!from!my!data!table,!I!used!the!50mL!graduated!cylinder!
and!I!got!44mL!while!the!10mL!graduated!cylinder!I!tried!measuring!7mL!and!I!got!6.6mL.!Furthermore,!I!think!that!using!a!
buret!is!harder!because!you!have!to!close!the!valve!and!it!is!kind!of!risky!to!get!exact!amount!that!you!want.!You!might!
have!to!pour!some!of!the!liquid!out!to!be!exact.!
!
5.!Would!you!use!beakers!and!graduated!cylinders!to!measure!other!volumes,!such!as!the!volume!of!sand!or!oil?!Why!or!
Why!not?!
In!my!opinion,!it!depends!on!the!amount!of!sand!or!oil.!If!there!is!a!high!amount,!I!would!probably!use!the!beaker!and!if!
there!is!lesser!amount!it!would!be!better!to!use!the!graduated!cylinders.!Still,!I!think!that!the!graduated!cylinders!are!easier!
to!use!and!are!more!accurate.!The!way!I!would!probably!use!to!find!the!volume!of!the!sand!is!to!first!measure!the!volume!
of!some!amount!of!water.!Then,!I!would!add!the!sand!to!that!water.!I!would!measure!the!new!volume.!To!find!the!sands!
volume!I!would!subtract!the!new!volume!with!the!sand!with!the!old!volume!without!the!sand.!For!the!oil,!I!would!just!put!
the!oil!into!the!graduated!cylinders!or!beakers!because!oil!is!already!a!liquid.!
!
Conclusion:!
In!this!lab,!I!learned!about!which!equipment!is!suitable!for!which!kind!of!experiments!and!will!help!the!experiment!most!
accurate.!Such!as,!I!learned!that!the!beakers!are!the!least!accurate!and!it!is!suitable!to!measure!the!amount!of!liquids!
ending!with!0!or!5!while!graduated!cylinders!are!very!accurate,!but!they!can!hold!less!amount!of!water.!Lastly,!the!buret!is!
also!accurate,!but!it!is!quite!hard!to!use.!
Discuss!possible!sources!of!error!that!may!have!interfered!with!your!results.!
I!think!that!not!concentrating!on!the!numbers!might!lead!to!errors.!Each!equipment!in!the!lab!have!different!order!of!
numbers.!Some!numbers!are!from!up!to!bottom,!while!some!are!bottom!to!up.!I!think!that!if!you!dont!read!the!numbers!
carefully!that!could!lead!to!mistakes.!Moreover,!some!might!forget!about!what!the!teachers!or!lab!technicians!told!us!not!
to!read!the!numbers!by!holding!the!equipment!up.!This!might!also!be!a!factor!that!lead!to!errors.!
