My Own Reality

Tzch! Tzch!

She could feel the straining on her brain trying to process everything with precision.
Buzzzz

The transmitters in her head were radiating towards the receptors in everyone elses. Ding!
Transmission complete.
After what seemed like 20 hours, the sound of the bell woke everyone who was dozing off,
including me.
Dessi! I hollered, trying to catch up to her, but pathetically falling to my knees from exhaustion.
Later, Airz! Dessi called after her boyfriend, finally peeling her eyes off of him to look at me.
From the ground level, I shot her an annoyed glare. Oh, Sera, dont be mad at me! she pouted. No
muscles moved in my face. Cmon, Kashiw Nuts! she giggled, trying to use the nickname she had given
me in 2nd grade, in an effort to cheer me up. As usual, it worked. The edges of my lips perked up and I
narrowed my eyes at her, terribly failing to keep a straight face. Yay! she cheered and swung her arms
around my neck, also falling to the ground like I had moments before, but intentionally. Lets go to that
new cafe you were talking about, ok?
Its about time, I rolled my eyes and instantly regretted it, because not even one second had
passed when I felt a sharp, slight pain across my face.
Ms. Sera Kashi! Where are your manners? Dessi spat, and those words instantly manifested her
maternal instincts. Dessi had lost her mother 2 years ago, in our sophomore year. Afterwards, she was left
to take care of her 3 younger brothers, who were always fooling around. She was so admirable in that
sense; she never complained about the things she had to do.
We headed towards the exit of the school campus. The new cafe that opened was only a few
blocks away, so we left our cars in the lot. The road was filled with bumps and cracks, in desperate need
of repair, but on this side of the city, no one really cared. There was also a huge mass of land that needed
usage, but the city hadnt implemented anything there. Therefore, it was just a deep pit of rocks and dried
grass, our only barrier from it was a worn-down fence.
Because of the silence that carried on through our walk,
my head shot up as I let out an awkward and shocked
groan when I heard slight sounds of crackling.
Chill, Sera! Its only a few pebbles, Dessi
sighed in an exasperated tone. But it wasnt. Before we
could comprehend the crashing and screeching that
followed up right after, something hit us. Everything

went black.
~
The next time I woke up, I found myself lying down under white sheets. My blurred vision was
nearly blinded by the bright lights. My eyes attempted to focus as I did a once-over of the room I was in. I
could see sinks, health posters, and monitors. I was in a hospital room. I looked down and saw some
bandages around my right arm, four nasty bloody gashes on my left arm, both of my feet were in casts,
and I could feel tight bandages around my head. I couldnt feel any part of my body but my head. It was

extremely painful, like a bomb was in there, exploding infinitely. How did I even end up here? Wait, I
kept feeling like I was missing something. What was it? I racked what was left of my brain.
Holy mother of mothers. Where was Dessi?! It felt like my insides had vanished, a huge wave of
anxiety hit me hard. Where were the nurses and doctors? I was getting more uncomfortable by the second.
I needed answers badly. If I were physically able to, I wouldve shot out of my bed, because of these
uncontrollable feelings of apprehension. I felt worthless, I could not pull up a single memory from the
strange occurrence I didnt even know about.
After what seemed like centuries, the creaking of the door was audible as it opened. A small
petite woman who looked like she was in her late 20s came in and walked towards me. A waft of
disinfectant soap traveled through my nostrils. Surprisingly, I still had my sense of smell.
It seems you have woken up, she said.
What hap-, I bursted out, and in that second did I realize my throat felt like it had caught fire.
My eyes squeezed shut and I tried to relieve the pain that ignited in my gullet. I tried once again, but more
carefully. Wh a..t ha-ppened to m..e? I asked, weakly.
To answer your question Ms. Kashi, it appears to be that you were involved with a very
destructive accident. Aside from the casts you were placed in and the bandages, you still need a few more
surgeries in your head. Its a miracle that youre conscious and alive at all. Relating to the cause of your
injuries, at the intersection you were at, there was a very serious car accident. From what I know, one car
was speeding extremely fast and it was too late to stop, therefore it collided with another car. The car that
was hit swerved off and was the one that hit you and your friend. In fact, it was so forceful that it pushed
both of you into the fence, and then into the pit of land, the nurse said solemnly.
M..y frien-. Wha..t hap- to De ..ssi? Is shh..e ok? I asked. The instant I asked, the nurses face
dropped. I could feel my heart drop.
Unfortunately, your friend and the driver in the car didnt make it, the nurse replied. I could
feel the color draining out of my face as tears started to prick the corner of my eyes. The nurse continued,
I am so sorry, and I know there is nothing I can do to make you feel better., I was asked not to tell you
this because of the potential negative impact to your psychological state, but I thought you deserved to
know. Telling you later wouldnt make much of a difference anyways.. I couldnt believe it. It was
unfathomable. My most beloved best friend was dead. I didnt even know where to start on the list of
things that werent possible anymore. I was going to go crazy. I wanted to cry, wanted to let a gigantic
waterfall gush out of my eyes, but I couldnt. It would hurt so much to cry, physically and emotionally.
A few days later, I was drugged to undergo the final surgery. It turns out there would be lots of

repairing on the uneven shape of my head that was
another
effect of the car accident.
Once I woke up, but this time, there were a group of
doctors crowded around me. Nervousness striked my
system and I tried to calm down. Um, whats
happening here..? I questioned weakly.
Well, said Doctor Adams, according to his nametag.
Your surgery was successful like the previous ones, but

there was some unidentified particles that were stuck to the area near the retinas in your eyes, your
occipital lobe, and the temporal lobe.
What does that mean? I asked, my voice wavering.
We dont know, thats why they remain unidentified. However, we can tell you that this wont
be a problem. They are so tiny and you wont even know its there. The only reason youll know is
because we told you so, Doctor Adams grinned.
Another doctor off to the corner perked up, Starting tomorrow, you will be in physical therapy
for the next few months. Your parents were contacted. By the time of the funeral, youll be healthy
enough to sit in a wheelchair. Thats right. The funeral. I started to feel dizzy, I couldnt take this
anymore.
~
We are here today to show our love and support for Iridescence Hillss relatives and loved
ones. I was about to collapse, cry, anything that would help let out a tiny amount of my grief. I couldnt.
I wouldnt lose my dignity here - not in front of Dessis dad and siblings, who were already sick to their
hearts. The weather was so unsettling as well. Unlike every other cliche funeral, it was so sunny and
bright, unfit for the rainy mood that was upon everyones heart. Before I was about to completely lose
myself, I was called up to speak.
I could hear the little pebbles in the ground crunch again the wheels of my chair, going ever so
slowly up to the podium. As I was about to open my mouth, my brain froze. Not out of panic, not out of
any kind of stage fright, I didnt even know why. It froze just like that, and it was on a level ten times
worse than a brainfreeze. Then, the feeling got worse. Its what seemed to always happen to me now everything just kept getting worse and worse. The icy feeling was so bad it felt like it was burning, and it
trailed all the way to the area around my eyes. Everyone looked at me and I just stared back, my range of
visual perception was slowly closing up.
I looked down so I wouldnt have to face everyone else
anymore, but thats when I saw Dessi laying so still in her maple wood
coffin - the last person who I wanted to see me losing it. I did anyway, I
could feel the strong focus in my brain ready to blow up my head.
Seeing Dessis cold body was like the last straw - somehow, in all the
transfer of this strange power and pain, I saw semi-opaque images of
what seemed to be the eyes of everyone surrounding me. What? Was
my brain somehow getting through to everyones eyes? Eyes.. the
Seras Viewpoint Looking Down
visual system, perhaps? It was too late to think anymore. Suddenly, I could hear glass shattering,
the crumble of bricks, screams of terror, chaos seemed to sweep the land, before I fell into
unconsciousness.
As I came to my senses, I was in a hospital, for what seemed like the millionth time. Except,
different from the previous million times, everyone at the funeral was here. I felt my heart skip a beat.
What have I done? Then, a few nurses ran towards me and helped me into a wheelchair. I was rushed off
to somewhere I didnt know and I didnt say anything. It appeared to be that I was being hauled off into
what seemed like a research lab. As I approached my apparent destination, a 30-year old looking guy clad
in plaid opened the door and rushed me in.

Listen, we dont have time because I have to get back to research as soon as possible, but Im
here to explain the incident that occurred last week, he said. Last week?! Ive been unconscious for a
week. It appears to be that you possess some type of power that can affect someones senses - those
include things like proprioception, kinesthesia, visual perception, and some of their auditory functions,
according to his name tag - Dr. Sphere Oce, explained.
What does this all mean? I asked, genuinely perplexed and anxious.
Theres a lot of explanations, but Ill try to sum it up. Remember how everything collapsed?
Some of it had to do with your emotional state. The image of your friend triggered everything you had in
control, and you impulsively let out all of your emotions. Instead of the normal teenage response of
response of meltdowns and what not, due to the molecule compounds that got into some parts of you
during the car accident, an illusionary power was activated. Wherever these molecule compounds, we
can refer to them as Illushycs were attached, is the parts of where you can control in other people. Your
strongest point, according to my data, is manipulating others visual perception.
How exactly does perception manipulation work, in this case? I asked, glad I could keep up
with the rest of the information.
In this world, everything is composed of small particles called Vitallytes, the Illushycs you
recently attained controls a type of Vitallyte - the Perceptolytes that are
mostly related to all sorts of perception. The Illushycs in you require a
focus/stamina called Igno, your emotions released an overpoweringly amount
of Igno. You have a limit of Igno you can release, and that level excelled it in
addition to being your first time of releasing it. This is what caused you to
faint. The amount of Igno released is also proportional to the percentage of
reality, Dr. Sphere Oce said. Your focus level was really high and so it
caused tons of unorderly damage that the people in your vicinity felt all of the
destruction, or at least thought they did. Keep in mind that your power isnt
100% real. This is
Model of a Perceptolyte actually a very brief summary.
Brief?
What I really want to get at after explaining all of this to you, is that you can actually use this
ability youve obtained for some good reasons. Its impossible for me right now to research and know
every possible fact about your power, but you might be able to just by possessing it. Youll learn about it
the more you use it, and there might be some mistakes. If you choose to use this power for the good of
this world, I have some advice.
Well? was all I could stutter out after receiving this huge amount of information.
The way people perceive things makes their own reality. Use that wisely. The way people
perceive the world makes it reality. Well, of course! If they cant see anything else, theyll have to
believe what theyre seeing
Out of all the unusual and nerve-wrecking things that have occurred, I couldnt even have been
surprised for what came next. Beyond the glass windows of the lab, I could see all the stars start to fade in
opacity. Everything was turning darker and I could hear the roaring thunder, about to come and destroy.
The lab shook and things started to shatter. The lights flickered out and all went black.
Too many things have went black. I blinked my eyes and everything in the lab was pristine,
untouched, and orderly as ever. The sun was out and its rays shone upon the polished white tables.

As the concentration flowed in my head, his words echoed over and over, The way people
perceive their own reality...reality.
