INTRODUCTIONSound mental health is important for every person. The impression mental health
consists of two words:-mental &health generally means sound conditions or well being our
freedom from diseases. Mental health, therefore, means a sound, mental condition or state of
psychological well being of freedom from mental disease (Singh, 2004). The word mental.
It is equilibrium in ones socio cultural context that is reflecting by the relationship one
establishes with others. Similarly, health refer to more than physical well being. It also can
notes the individuals intra-physic balance, the interaction of ones physic-structure with the
external &social environment (kaur,2007).
"Mental health is knowledge and art which helps to make them compatible with their
environment by creating some psychologically and correct methods and choose better
solution to solve their problems". We all know the importance of looking after our physical
health, but its just as important to look after our mental health. A healthy mental health is
when you feel good about yourself and copes will with the everyday pressures of life good
mental health should be a priority for everyone.Mental health is a term used to describe how
well the individual is adjusted to the demands and opportunities of life. The idea of mental
health is complex and comprehensive. Mental health may be better understood by its
comparison with physical health. A person is said to be physically healthy when his body is
functioning well and he is free from pains and troubles. Similarly, a person is in good mental
health when his mind or personality is functioning effectively and he is free from emotional
disturbances. In general, he is enjoys life and many happiness he has a few intimate and close
friends, maintains cordial relations with a number of people whom he meets and generally
gets along with all those with whom he come in contact in life and work. He is able to meet
his problems without much disturbance, and his fear and anxieties are normal. He keeps an
equable temper and when aroused expresses his anger in a socially acceptable way. He is
concerned about his health but not hyper-anxious about it. He has emotional maturity, balance
and equilibrium. He understand himself, his merits and abilities, he also known his handicaps
and disabilities, but he accepts them and makes the most of what mental and physical
capacity he has. Mental health is on a continuum and one can attain optimum mental health
by following the golden means, a self healthy attitude and realizing ones creating potential
etc. A mentally healthy person is poised and serene, which points to an inner world of selfassurance and security, and a sense of self-fulfillment.
According to the modern concept, mental health is the capacity to keep oneself
integrated in the faces of stress and strain through integrative adjustment. There can be a
variety of normal adjustments. Sometimes serve mal adjustment in one area leads to serve
mal-adjustment in other areas. Mal adjustment in various areas of life is taken as the evidence
of disturbed mental health. To sum up, we find that the western approach towards mental
health is devoid of a valve system and a world view, without that the picture of mental health
remains somewhat incomplete. But, if we conclude the two eternal values of love and truth,
which can
Considered both individual and social endeavors, we can attempt a fairly
comprehensive definition of a mentally healthy person. A mentally healthy person is
aesthetic, creative and dynamic, inspired by the values of love and truth, with a balance of
reason and faith, efforts and resignation and self-needs and social needs.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Review of the Mental Health Act, 2001,
The completion of this review is in line with a commitment in the Program for
Government which promised to have the review carried out in consultation with service
users, careers and other stakeholders while being informed by human rights standards.
The Expert Group, which began its work in August 2012, took as its starting point an
initial report undertaken by a Steering Group which scoped out the main issues for further
review. ''The Group has made 165 recommendations, the bulk of which relate to changes to
our mental health legislation." In particular, the changes seek to move away from the often
