ABSTRACT
Propolis is a bee product that contains chemical compounds with diverse
biological activity, one of them is polyphenolic compounds. The high
antioxidant activity of propolis is potencial to be used in Antiaging
cosmeceutical. One mechanism of antiaging is the inhibition of the
collagenase enzyme that degrade collagen. This study aims to determine
the inhibitory activity of propolis ethanol extract (PEE) against collagenase
enzyme in vitro. Propolis was extracted by maceration method. That
produces rendament of 10.19% and phenolic total content of 7.12
0.14%w/w. Anti collagenase activity was measured by ELISA (EnzymeLinked Immunosorbent Assay) method using reagents Collagenase
Activity Colorimetric Assay Kit. The measurement was performed on
some variation of the concentration of 25, 50 and 100 ppm. Data analysis
using independent sample T-test showed that there are significant
differences between the average activity of collagenase (percent inhibition)
and PEE concentrations used in inhibition of the enzyme collagenase
activity. PEE at a concentration of 25 ppm had no anti collagenase activity
whereas at 50 ppm has anti collagenase activity of 6.67% and at 100 ppm
of 51.67 2.36%. This study showed, that propolis can be used as
candidate of antiaging.
