BAHRIA UNIVERSITY KARACHI CAMPUS, KARACHI

SEMESTER: FALL 2016

BAHRIA UNIVERSITY, (Karachi Campus)

Department of Electrical Engineering
Fall - 2016
EET-321 Communication Systems (3+1)
Prerequisite: Signal and Systems
Class: BEE-5A, BEE-5B, BEE-5C
Teaching Faculty: Hina Shakir

Aims and Objectives:

This course deals with the basic concepts of Amplitude Modulation (AM) and Frequency
Modulation (FM). AM and FM are characterized by side band formations which are also topics
of this course. AM and FM circuits, both the transmitter and receivers, are discussed too. In
summary, this course is about modulation techniques and this forms the first step towards more
advanced concepts of communication systems.

Outcomes:
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Understand basic elements of a communication system
2. Conduct analysis of baseband signals in time domain and in frequency domain
3. Demonstrate understanding of various analog and digital modulation and demodulation
techniques techniques.
4. Analyse the performance of modulation and demodulation techniques in various transmission
environments
5. Appreciate the importance of synchronisation in communication systems
