Kinship (Brother donates corneas to sister)

"London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling

down. London Bridge is falling down, my fair lady."
When the familiar song stopped, I opened my charming
blue eyes in a daze. Missing! He disappeared out of my
bedroom. Despair engulfed me. Then I glanced at the
photograph hanging on the wall. Both of the man and
woman in the picture were wearing smiles on their
faces. Blissful and beautiful smiles. Like an arrow
released from its bow, the buried and once forgotten
memories pierced my heart with an unknown intensity.
Involuntarily, I reminisced back to the past when we
were together.
The sun spilled its rays into the room invading every
nook and corner. With the ring of the alarm clock, I
woke up grumpily from my shallow slumber. Although I
had already opened my eyes, I still could not see
anyone. In my world, I could only see darkness. Yes, I
was a blind girl. I was waiting for another nice guy to
help me.
" Nicole! Nicole!"
Jolted out of my thoughts, I realised that my
brother was hugging me suddenly. My brother, Daniel.
He was a cute and adorable kid. His laughter always

accompanied my silence. I loved my adorable brother

like how he loved me so much.
I never saw his face. However, he told me about
himself. He was a lanky guy. He was well-built and he
could protect me. Then, he had well-tanned skin and a
sharp chin. He also had smiling lips and sharp nose. He
had disheveled blond hair. All in all, he had a pair of
soulful, charming and dazzling blue eyes. He said, he
was the best-looking guy in the world. I also did not
have the chance to see my own face. My brother told
me that I was a dashing beauty. I had milky-hue
condition skin and sharp chin. I had a heart-shaped
face. I also had a sharp nose and rose-bud lips. I had
straight and jet-black long hair. Eventually, I had a pair
of dull dark and round like slits eyes. He said that I
was the perfect embodiment of the female species. I
smiled and told him that he was a stupid kid.
On a fateful day, Daniel took me to go outdoors for
our lunch. While walking through the bustling crowd, a
cacophony of sounds assaulted our ears: the din of
conversation, the incessant noise of engines created by
the traffic inching its way through the crowded street,
the blare of horns and the screeching of brakes. His
hand held my hand even more tightly. Out of the blue, a
guy snatched Daniel's camera. It was a robber. Daniel
put down my hand and ran after the robber. "Daniel!"

My heart was pounding. I stood petrified for a few

moments. I waited anxiously for long minutes. All sorts
of terrible thoughts came up to torment me. Time
seemed to crawl. In this nerve-wrecking situation,
someone shouted loudly. Everything went haywired. I
knew that everything in my life would change at the
moment.
In the hospital room, when I opened my eyes, my eyes
became watery, obscuring my sight and tears rolled
down drop by drop. I tried to keep my lips closed tight
to avoid an outburst of crying and I tried to stop
shaking. Impossible! I could see. My eyes could see
everything! On the table, there was a camera. I knew
that it belonged to Daniel and I was smiling blissfully
and happily. It was his eyes. Although I had the chance
to see this world, I had lost my brother...
From the moment I opened my eyes, I knew that he
was gone since then.
