Implementation of Budget Measures 2016/2017


The Ministerial Committee, set up under the chairmanship of the Hon. Minister
of Finance and Economic Development, to oversee the execution of the 2016/17
Budget measures, met on Thursday 20 October 2016 and took note of the good
progress in the implementation of the various programmes, projects and schemes
announced in the Budget.

The Chairpersons of the 3 Task Forces presented their first progress report
and highlighted the actions being taken by Ministries, Departments and public bodies
to ensure that the targets and other deliverables set are being met on time.

Out of the 126 measures under the purview of the Task force on Economy,
33 have been fully completed while 89 are on track and 4 measures are being
worked out, namely the setting up of the Skills Development Authority, the
amendment to the MITD Act, the setting up of Crop Insurance Scheme and the
amendment to the Non-Citizens Property Restriction Act for the acquisition of
apartments by foreigners.

The Chairperson of the Task Force on Public Infrastructure and Green
Economy reported that all the 30 projects under his purview are on track.

Concerning the Task Force on Quality of Life and Poverty Alleviation, out
of the 119 measures, 32 have been fully completed, 85 measures are on track and
two projects namely the setting of the Police Academy and the Safe City project are
at planning stage.

Thus, out of 275 measures being monitored by the 3 Task Forces, 65 have
been completed, 204 are on track and 6 are being processed.

The next meeting of the Ministerial Committee is scheduled for end of
November 2016. In the meantime, the Task Forces and various sub-committees will
continue to monitor progress to ensure smooth and timely implementation of the
budget measures.
