CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The industrial training exercise is made in partial fulfillment for the award
of B. Sc by the National Open University of Nigeria. The exercise is in alliance
with the policy of the national board for technical education introduced, long
age to acquaint students to the relevant practical exposure in their choice of
study. Those who have undergone it acquired practical and industrial
knowledge
This report is based on the experience acquired from AKAGOD
COMPUTER SCHOOL located at UMUERIM NEKEDE OWERRI, IMO
STATE.

1.1 ORIENTATION
When I first arrived at AKAGOD COMPUTER SCHOOL, everywhere
was been filled up with students and staffs, I met the receptionist on her desk
and she took me to the director of the organization, informal discussion with
him the orientation proper began. The director started telling me what to do and
what no to do in the organization; he was able to give me a print out of the rules
and regulations guiding every staff and IT students in the organization. He made
me to know the aims and objective of the school and he never failed to tell me
1

the ways and strategies the management of the school has applied in other to
actualize their vision.

CHAPTER TWO

2.0 SUMMARY OF WORK DONE IN THE FIRST MONTH

In my first month in AKAGOD COMPUTER SCHOOL, I was
introduced to their computer laboratory where I was shown the school time
table in other for me to handle the students on computer packages e.g. msword, publisher, Ms Excel e.t.c
I was also introduced to the way in setting up a cyber caf and how to
perform some networking that has to do with the connecting and sharing of
information within the network
I was also exposed to the duties of a computer operator and that of a
system analyst

2.1 SUMMARY OF WORK DONE IN THE SECOND MONTH

This is the most essential duty assigned to me; it involves teaching of

computer packages to the students and also to assist in doing some computer
jobs like photocopying, laminating and so on
Since, all through the second month of the training, I was busy learning
every work done by a computer operator and a system analyst.

In fact, the summary of work done on the second month is supervised by

industrial training supervisor.

2.2 SUMMARY OF WORK DONE ON THE THIRD MONTH

On the third month of the supervised industrial work experience project, I
was assisted by the computer instructor in typing and designing computer works
like calendars, handbills, certificates e.t.c. but in any case, it is obvious that the
functions of the computer instructor is inseparable from that of a computer
analyst for the works interchangeably.
This is to say that an analyst work with information provided by the
management who is the director of the firm and has nothing to do, not until he
is being fed up with information in other to work with.

2.3 SUMMARY OF WORK DONE ON THE FOURTH MONTH

During the fourth month being the last month of the industrial training
programme, I was busy doing the work of a system analyst and that of a
computer operator and also that of an engineer. I was congratulated for a job
well done during my stay in the organization by the director of the organization
and the staff that worked with me

CHAPTER THREE
3.0 EXPERIENCE GAINED IN THE PERIOD OF FOUR (4) MONTHS
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (I.T)
The experienced gained in the cause of the period with AKAGOD
COMPUTER SCHOOL, is that the computer instructor offers me great
opportunity for working towards the level of computing as a programmer, it
also offers me great opportunity in insight and adding more skills to my
programming carrier.
The industrial training helps me in knowing how to type and bind works
and also to do some other computer jobs

CHAPTER FOUR
4.0 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
The first problem encountered was where to get the right training.
Establishment were not willing to take in industrial training students, I was
surprised that some of them behave as if the did not realize the importance of
the SIWES program to the well being of the country. The situation was even
worse in some companies were youth from the communities had to use violence
to ensure that only their own students were given the opportunity to be trained.
The industrial training allowance received from the firm I did my industrial
training was not enough so I used my money to complete it for settlement of
some expenses like feeding and transportation
No official from the industrial training fund (ITF) came to visit me as they
were supposed to at least to ensure that the students are receiving the training
relevant to their course of study.

CHAPTER FIVE

5.0 RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION

5.1 RECOMMENDATIONS
I will like to use this avenue to make some important recommendation on
how to improve the SIWES program, for it is one of the corner stones for the
development of Nigerians future industrial manpower.
Firstly, the federal government through the nation assembly should pass a
bill calling for registered companies to accept industrial training students; the
bill when signed into law by the presidency should be strictly enforced by the
executive arm of government.
Secondly, all schools should compile the list of all the names of their
students that are eligible to participate in the SIWES program. The list should
be sent to the national ITF headquarters then ITF should liaise with the
companies and post every student to a relevant company according to distance
to proximity of the company to the student.

Furthermore, there have to be effective and through supervision of student

by both and ITF and individual schools. This is a very important aspect that is
taken very lightly; lack of supervision can make a student to spend four months
in an establishment without gaining any experience.
Finally, due to the fact that many establishment behave as if the did not
appreciate the importance of the SIWES program to this country, I will suggest
8

and recommend that the federal government through ITF should organize a
work shop of sensitization campaign to educate this companies on the need to
take the SIWES program more seriously.

5.2 CONCLUSIONS

Anybody that truly went for these four months IT must surely something
good and interesting to present.
My experience in this training really built my academic mind and it emboldens
my sense of reasoning and understanding. I really benefited a lot from that
experience and I was also exposed to the reality we will face when we leave the
school; let no body deny him/herself the privilege of experiencing the industrial
training.
In order to promote the growth of the training, the following recommendation
should be posted and be adhered to.
First and foremost, students should be posted by the school to a place of
attachment in order to relieve the burden of looking for a place of attachment by
the student. The establishment needs proper management to enable them profit
and also equip the establishment.
