Folk and Popular Culture Chapter 4 (Unit 3)

Folk Culture Project
Folk cultures can be found all over the world, on every continent. Each folk culture is comprised of its
own unique elements and aspects. For this assignment, you will choose one of the approved folk cultures
listed below:

The Maori of New Zealand

The culture of Ukraine
The Navajo people of the American Southwest
The Zulu people of South Africa
The Basque people of Spain/France
The mestizos of Mexico

You will type up a 2-3 page written report on the culture that you choose. Your report should contain
description of your chosen cultures:

Religion & traditional beliefs

Clothing
Housing
Traditional food and beverages
Societal characteristics (how are families organized, who dominates that society, what are the
traditional gender roles, etc.)
Entertainment (sports, games, etc.)
The location of that particular culture (how widespread is it?)
Any challenges that particular group has faced in the past/might be currently facing
Anything else you might feel is noteworthy

** This assignment will be worth 100 points, and will be graded based on adherence to the above
guidelines. Also, be sure that your report is well-written.
**Papers are due on Thursday, October 24.
