1. Motivation:
Who has a store? What are the goods that
are repacked less than a kilo? Why do you think
they are doing it?

- The pupils are raising their hands.

2. Presentation- Present the lesson through the

following:
Activity 1 - Problem Analysis
1) Present the problem on the board:
Mother has a small sari-sari store.
Everytime she buys a 50-kilo cavan of
sugar, she repacks it into smaller bags
weighing 0.25 kilo. How many small
plastic bags are needed by mother?

2) Have the class work by pairs.

3) Tasks:
a) What is asked in the problem?
b) What are the given facts?
c) what should be done to solve the problem?
d) Translate the problem into an equation.
e) Show your solution, step by step:

- The pupils are listening and actively

participating in the class.

Step 1 - Multiply the divisor by 100 to make the

divisor a whole number or just move the decimal
point to the right as many places as there are
decimals in the divisor.
0.25/50
Step 2 - Multiply also the dividend by 100.
0.25/50
Step 3 - Divide the number as you divide whole
numbers.
Step 4 - Check your work by multiplying the
quotient by the divisor. The product should be
equal to the dividend.
200 x 0.25 = 50.00
f) Ask them who got the correct answer.
Activity 2 - Problem Opener: Whole Class
Activity
1. Teacher presents the problem on the
chart/activity cards.
Mr. Valencia jogged a total of 40
kilometres during his stay in the city. If
he jogged 0.20 km daily, how long was
his stay in the city?
a) What did Mr. Valencia do when he was in the
city? Why is it good to jog? Why?
b) What is asked in the problem?
c) What are the given facts?
d) what should be done to solve the problem?
e) Translate the problem into an equation.
f) Show your solution, step by step:

- The pupils are thinking for possible

answers.

Step 1 - Multiply the divisor by 100 to make the

divisor a whole number or just move the decimal
point to the right as many places as there are
decimals in the divisor.
0.20 x 100 = 20
Step 2 - Multiply also the dividend by 100.
40 x 100 = 4000
Step 3 - Divide the number as you divide whole
numbers.

Therefore,

- The pupils are giving their answers.

Answer: Mr. Valencia stayed 200 days in the city.

decimal?
- What are the two ways of making the divisor a
whole number?
- If you change the divisor into a whole number.
What will you do with the dividend?

3. Application:
Find the quotient. Check your answer.
1. 0.15/30
2. 0.32/48
3. 0.25/125

paragraphs about Filipino values and identify
the central or main idea. Explain that the main
idea is the key concept or the central topic in the
paragraph. It may be located in the beginning,

middle or ending sentence of a paragraph.

- The following paragraphs contain some
values that help build a strong citizenry and a
peaceful progressive country.
I
The Filipino is a very respectful person. He
shows due respect to his parents, elders and to
people in authority. He never misses saying the
word po every time situations demand it. This
is a Filipino way of showing respect which we
are proud of. He kisses the hands of parents and
grandparents as a unique way of showing
respect to elders. He calls his older brother
Kuya or his sister Ate.
II
The Filipino is a God-loving person. Whether
Christian or non-Christian, he believes in one
God. He patterns his life in the way God wants
for him. He loves his neighbors because he loves
God. He prays not only for himself but also for
his family, his fellowmen, and his country.
III
The Filipino does not only care for himself but
also for his fellowmen. He is very human and
concerned about people around him. He is very
thoughtful, loving, understanding, helpful, fair,
friendly, and charitable. He shares even the little
that he has with the needy and the poor. When
calamities like typhoons, floods, epidemics, and
earthquakes occur, you can be sure that the
Filipino is always there with a helping hand and
a ready to smile to sheer up those who suffer.
IV
The lack of gravity in space makes even simple
tasks a challenge. Astronauts have to wear
boots that hold their feet to the floor so that
they can walk around. Eating is a real chore.
Dried and frozen foods are stored in plastic
bags. To eat chicken soup, the astronauts cut a
hole in one end of the bag and squeeze the soup
into their mouths.
V
It takes more than food to make babies grow
up to be healthy and happy. If babies are not
patted and hugged, they grow more slowly and
are less healthy. Also they will not be as smart
or happy when they become adults. Many
studies show that love is the most important
thing in childrens lives.

- Pupils are listening.

- The pupils are giving their answers.

- The pupils are raising their hands.

- The pupils are listening and actively

participating in the class.

Generalization:
The main idea of a paragraph is stated in the
topic sentence; it is also a sentence that states
the most important idea of a paragraph or a
selection. It tells about the topic of the
paragraph and what the paragraph says about
the topic.
D. Application
Directions: Underline the main idea of the
paragraph.
Passing fears are common in early childhood.

- Pupils are answering the application.

Many children 2- to -4 years old are afraid of

animals, especially dogs. By 6 years, children
are more likely to be afraid of the dark. Other
common fears are of thunderstorms, doctors,
and imaginary creatures.
There are gender differences in adolescents
satisfaction with their bodies. Compared with
boys, girls are usually less happy with their
bodies and have more negative body images.
Also, as puberty proceeds, girls often become
even more dissatisfied with their bodies. This is
probably because their body fat increases. In
contrast, boys become more satisfied as they
move through puberty, probably because their
muscle mass increases.

- The pupils are thinking for possible

answers.

It is often said that lightning never strikes

twice in the same place, but this isnt true. Go
ask the forest rangers. Rangers who spend their
summers as fire-fighters will tell you that every
thundershower brings several bolts of lightning
to their lookout stations.
Costs were low that year and the ouput high.
There was a good person for each job and the
market remained firm. There were no losses
from fire. All in all it was the best years in the
history of the company.
IV. Evaluation:
Directions: Underline the main idea of the paragraph.
Advertising affects our lives every day. Brand names are common household words. We start
each day using the toothpaste, soap, and breakfast foods promoted by advertisers. Ads have
made the cars we drive signs of our success. Our choices of food, dress, and entertainment are
swayed by ads. Not one aspect of American life is untouched by advertising.
Soccer players learn many skills when playing soccer. Soccer players learn how to dribble
and pass the ball. They also learn how to control the ball so they can eventually score. Most
importantly, soccer players learn how to work together with their teammates.
The diamond is a hard element that can cut through almost any metal. That is why it is often
used for industrial purposes. Whole diamond stones are set into tools. Dust from crushed
diamond stones is used for coating the edge of tools. Care must be taken when exposing
diamonds to extreme heat because heat can turn them into graphite. Graphite is the soft
material used in the manufacture of lead for pencils.
V. Assignment:
Directions: Underline the main idea of the paragraph.
There are many ways to learn about people. You can learn a lot about people by simply
watching or talking to them. Looking at the floor can also give you information about people.
You can tell where people walk most frequently because of the worn carpet. The next time
youre riding in someone elses car, noticed the music on the radio. The type of music played
on the station can tell a lot about the person!
The peanut is a humble plant with hundreds of functions. Most peanuts are roasted in their
shells and lightly salted. About half the peanuts eaten in the United States are ground into a
thick paste called peanut butter. The rich oil made from peanuts is good for frying foods and is
used for oiling machines and making soaps.
