Integrated Child Development Services scheme
(ICDS] is Centrally Sponsored Scheme which
was introduced in the state of Punjab in Nurpur
Bedi Block Distt Ropar during 1975-76. More
projects were sanctioned in a phased manner by
the Govt.of India. Now all the blocks in the state
have been covered under this scheme. Total 154
ICDS (145 Rural and 9 Urban) projects have been
sanctioned by the G.O.I. The scheme is being
implemented in the 26656 Anganwadi Centres.

Norms/standards
I.C.D.S Training Programme was stated during
the year 1998-99 by Govt. of India with the help
of the World Bank to train the ICDS
functionaries. The main objective of this training
programme is to train the ICDS functionaries,
supervisors, Anganwadi Workers & Helpers to
improve their working. At this time 9
Anganwadi Training Cenres and 1 Middle Level
Training Centre is working in the State of
Punjab. Anganwadi Workers and Helpers are
trained in Anganwadi Training Cenres and
Supervisors are trained in Middle level Training
Centre.

are covered. The yearly premium is Rs. 180/-.
Karti Bima Yojana
Out of this, Rs.100/- is to be provided by Govt. of
India, Rs. 100/- out of the Social Security Fund
and Rs.80/- is to be contributed by the
Anganwadi Worker/ Helper. From 1.4.07 to
31.3.08 no contribution is to be made by the
Anganwadi Worker/ Helper. Under this

Norms/standards
The main objective of the scheme is to provide
non- formal education and numeracy skills to the
girls between the age group of 11-18 from the
families below poverty line. The purpose is to
increase a desire for more social explosre and
knowledge and to help them to improve their
decision making capabilities so as to train, equip
adolescent to improve/upgrade home based and
vocational skills. Further to train her in health
awareness, hygiene, nutrition, family welfare,
home management, child care so as to facilitate
her to perform the duties of mother and create
such environment so that the girls can have the
knowledge of social issues and further they marry
after 18 years of age. The adosescent girls should
be encouraged to initiate various activities so that
they can become a helpful member of the society.
The girl child born on or after 15.8.1997 in the
Balika Samridhi Yojana:
families living below poverty line or their annual
income is below Rs. 20,000/- are covered under
this scheme. Only two girl children of the family
will be covered under the scheme. The main
objective of the scheme is to uplift the social
status of girls and to reduce school drop out.
Under the scheme, an amount of Rs. 500/- is
deposited in the joint account of beneficiary and
Child Development Project Officer. Under the
scheme scholarship will be provided as per the
guidelines of Govt. of India.
Gender
Awareness As per the census 2001 there is a decline in the
Programme
against sex ratio in the State. The decline in the sex ratio
in the age group 0-6 age is even higher. In order
