RUSSIAN TROOPS IN PAKISTANJOINT EXERCISE : By Dr. Shahid Hasan

A series of war games known as Friendship 2016

kicked off at a Special Forces academy in Cherat.
During the ceremony, Russian forces showed Pakistanis their weaponry, including the VSS Vintorez
sniper rifle and the NRS-2 combat knife.
To start, over 40 soldiers from the two countries
took part in a mountain training exercise. Carrying
equipment weighing around 15kg, representatives
from the Southern Military Districts mountain infantry brigade based in Karachay-Cherkessiya
demonstrated how to make a safety mechanism
using a station knot.
Their Pakistani colleagues returned the favor,
showing them another safety mechanism using a
special rope with three knots. Both systems would
be useful under extreme circumstances, where
access to resources is limited.
Russian and Pakistani troops are taking part in the
Friendship 2016 war games, at an altitude of over
4,500 feet. Moscow and Islamabad are interested
in
deepening
military-to-military
relations, Pakistani Ambassador to Russia, Mr. Qazi
Khalilullah told the TASS news agency. This obviously indicates a desire on both sides to broaden
defense and military-technical cooperation.In
2014, Russia agreed to supply defense equipment
to Pakistan, and in 2015 Pakistan used the opportunity to buy four Mi-35 gunship helicopters. Also
in 2015, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif

Over the past few years, the two countries have

between the two countries. Pre-requisites
have been met. the foundation has been laid
and there are chances of success, Mr Dedov

to the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce
George Petrov in the Russian-Pakistani business forum, held
in the House, at Moscow
He noted that currently Russia has consistently pursued a
policy of providing comprehensive assistance to Pakistan. RF
CCI considers the relations between Russia and Pakistan as
friendly. In recent years the two countries built a constructive dialogue at the political level in both bilateral and multilateral formats, said Georgi Petrov.
Advisor to the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce said that the relations through the Russian and Pakistani business community have intensified after a visit to
Russia in May 2011, the President of Pakistan and the start
of the Russian-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission
(IGC first meeting was held in September 2010 in Moscow,
the second. - in Islamabad in September 2012.).

to 2014 and totaled US $ 396 million.. Russian exports to
Pakistan amounted to US $ 98 million (a decrease of 33.5
percent), while imports from Pakistan -. US $ 298 million
(decrease of 4 per cent).. However, in January-March 2016
there was 3 per cent increase in turnover compared to the
same period of 2015.
According to Georgy Petrov, the House, in the face of the
Russian-Pakistani Business Council (running since 2011)
was ready to render all possible assistance to the current
initiative of the delegation of Pakistan. However, he noted, bilateral contacts
with Pakistan on the lines of the RF CCI is
not of a regular nature (RF CCI partner
organization in Pakistan is the Federation
of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce
(FPTPP), with which an agreement on cooperation was signed in 1999.).
Georgi Petrov stressed, promising areas of
cooperation between the Russian Chamber
of Commerce in the exchange of business
information, participation in fairs and exhibitions, as well as cooperation between
regions, including investment promotion.
In turn, Minister-head of Pakistan's Trade
Development Authority of Muhammad
Sheikh Munir said that the composition of
the present Pakistani delegation in Russia

comprised of representatives of agricultural unit, including

producers and exporters of fruits and vegetables, producers
of sports clothing and household goods, dental equipment .
He said that the meeting with the head of the Industry and
Trade Minister Denis Manturov was productive and expressed hope that the joint turnover now will grow.
The head of the Pakistani delegation assured that the return
visit of the Minister Manturova in September this year in the
capital of Pakistan will only accelerate the implementation
of joint business projects. In particular, we are talking about
creating a joint Russian-Pakistani businesses, exhibitions (in
particular, in the near future in Moscow) (expressed by Russian company "Aeroflot" prior consent), the organization of
direct flights between the two countries. With regard to the

Aslam Azhar, a leading broadcaster and a progressive ideologue, passed away at the age of
83. Having a great experience in

earlier he was the
President of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic was the
last First Secretary of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.
He was fonder of People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDP). He served his nation, country and people with
economic growth, peace stability and development. Association of Pakistani Graduates from Russia & CIS countries express it deep feeling with people of Uzbekistan to
bare this pain.

With an intelligent mind and

excellent abilities, this Pakistani
writer quickly gathered a team of writers, cameramen,
artists and designers and developed stations at Lahore,

Mairaj Muhammad Khan

Aslam Azhar

Karachi and Quetta for the purpose of bringing some quality programs. Other initiatives for which he must be credited include the 1982-83 award ceremony of PTV, in 1970
marathon transmission of elections, Music 89 as well as the
Lahore Islamic Summit. Other famous works include
Roobroo which was hosted by Mohsin Sherazi and Khuda
ki Basti.

Mairaj Muhammad Khan has left a legacy of principled,

progressive struggle. He became prominent in 1968
against the Ayub regime as a student leader and then he
played a critical role in the formation of the PPP. Later
his role in the MRD against the Zia dictatorship was
amongst the most prominent ones. His last decades
were spent in political disillusionment. He became a
member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf before leaving
it in 2003 over political differences. He struggled for
democracy and the rights of workers throughout his
political life. Over his life, he spent over 13 years in jail
for resisting military dictatorships and heavy-handed
state rule. He suffered various injuries after numerous
beatings and torture. In the face of innumerable suffering, Mairaj remained committed to his ideals and refused to compromise to those in power. In his death, we
have lost a man who was committed to democracy, the
working class and oppressed nationalities. His life is a
lesson to those who still desire a more progressive Pakistan.
