INTRODUCTION
I have done my internship with the IT team of Fortune Select Global, Gurgaon.
It is a well-known 5 star hotel in Gurgaon comprises of 120 rooms.
The IT team has the role to maintain networking across the hotel and
troubleshoot if any problem occurs.

NETWORKING DIAGRAM
The networking present there as follows:
They are getting Internet from an ISP named as 24Online via fibre optical cable
in their campus. Fibre optical cable cannot be used in whole campus so it is
signal from fibre optical cable is converted into a form compatible with
Ethernet CAT6 cable using a device known as Media Converter. Ethernet cable
can be connected in various numbers to provide more accessibility.
The Ethernet cable is connected to firewall to apply various restriction, the
speed, bandwidth etc. After applying firewall, the signal is partitioned in two
speed form 1 Mbps for users and 7 Mbps for hotel connection.
First the hotel cable is connected to a WAN kit to provide internet to a large
area. They have setup 2 servers one is DNS Server for file sharing and mailing,
their domain name is fortuneconnect.They are using Windows 2007 as DNS
Server.
The second server is IDS server, not basically a server but software on which
whole system relies for data storage and processing. It is called PMS in hotel
industry i.e. Property Management Service. All transaction, data storage is
done using this server.
The protocol they are using is IPv4.

Now coming to the wifi services they are providing, they are using a gateway
called AAA gateway. They have setup hub in their IT room and hub is
connected to switch that are present at every floor.
All rooms are provided with access points for internet connectivity with the
help of routers.

COMMON ISSUES and TROUBLESHOOT

Link Broken
Sometimes situation arises that internet connectivity is gone, the team looks
for the point from where the link is broken, and they start pinging the different
devices connected in network. Starting from the last node i.e. system they ping
system LAN kit, IDS and Gateway.
Most of the time either of these devices have issues otherwise they contact ISP
for connectivity.
Issue between Lan kit and system
Many a times this is the issue that few systems in LAN lose its connectivity
while all other systems are online.
The main causes are:
Kit Faulty- The lan kit gets faulty and so the connection is interrupted between
kit and system. The best way to troubleshoot it is to replace the kit.
Port Faulty-Sometimes the ports on which system are connected gets faulty so
replacing the port is the best option they have.
Loose Wiring - The wiring between the kit and system becomes loose so we
replace the connector on both ends.

Issue between Lan Kit and server

This is a not a common issue and cant be rectified easily. Sometimes there
comes an issue between server and LAN kit, the connection of whole Lan goes
down.
The main issue of this failure is some problem in the server, maybe the server
stopped working or the server is not responding for some task.
The troubleshoot takes time as they have to check server otherwise they call
server engineers for it.
