EDS 220.07 October 20, 2016 MY CAREER AUTOBIOGHRAPHY
My name is Fatih Kuzu. I was born in Istanbul in 1996. I am from Sinop.
I have only one brother. He was born in Istanbul in 1999. I spent my childhood years in Istanbul. My parents did not send me to a kindergarten. I started primary school in Istanbul at the age of seven. At the age of ten, I moved to our hometown Sinop with my parents. I lived and studied in my hometown until I started to study at Middle East Technical University in Ankara. I am studying in the department of Foreign Language Education at METU at present. As for my hobbies, I like playing football and table tennis, chess, and computer games. I also like drawing city plans. Moreover, I am quite interested in foreign languages, history, geography and politics. So I also like reading books and watching documentaries. Actually, the reason why I decided to pursue teaching as an area of study is a little bit complicated. When I was at primary school, I used to dream of becoming a policeman or soldier like many boys. When I was at secondary school, I decided to become a historian because I was really good at history. However, at the last grade of secondary school, I decided to become an English teacher because my English teacher at that time quite influenced my career decision. He was a really great and skillful teacher. He used to say to me that I had had a great ability towards foreign languages especially English. In the high school, I also had English teachers who motivated me to become a
teacher of English. Moreover, the importance of knowing English also
motivated me become a teacher of English because knowing English is crucial to anyone who wants to follow latest developments in terms of politics, science, and technology etc. throughout the world. So I have chosen this career. As for my beliefs about human nature and development, they are important factors that impact student learning and motivation. Although we still do not know many things about human nature. However, this is certain that human nature and development are shaped by both genes and environment and they also have an important influence on human mind because they are related to each other. Therefore, teachers must learn about human nature and development in order to conduct an effective education process. As for the other important factors that impact student learning and motivation, I think that students mental level, physical and psychological conditions are other important factors. To clarify, if some students have mental, physical and psychological problems, then their learning and motivation will be affected badly. Furthermore, teachers personality is also an important factor in learning process because students success or failure is directly linked to teacher attitude towards the students. To clarify, if a teacher is friendly, caring and helpful towards the students, then they will probably love their teacher and can easily focus on their studies. As for the teaching methods, type of assignments and assessment methods, I would prefer to use learner-centered methods because they let both learners and instructors cooperate actively during teaching process. They also give more
opportunities to them to learn and discover by themselves. I would also use
some strategies such as discussion method and brainstorming in order to raise learners participation into class such as discussion method. I would give them research assignments so as to support their learning process. Moreover, I would use pop-quizzes and written reflections in order to check what they have learned during the teaching process. As for the next topic, I think that disabled students would be the most difficult for me to teach. Actually, disabled students are not naughty as others and friendlier but I do not know anything about special teaching methods, strategies and assessments for disabled students because we are mainly trained to teach normal students at the faculty of education. Unless I am also trained to teach for them, I will probably have difficult times while I teach them. Finally, I would like to be remembered as a successful, skillful and caring teacher by my students.
