Introduction
SPIT designs and manufactures bedding resins at its Bourg-LsValence plant in France's Drme region.
As an industrial player, Spit has always been proactive in terms of
both quality (ISO 9002 approval since 1987 and ISO 9001:2000
since 2002), and safety (continuous improvement for our staff
and customers).
Its environmental approach won the company ISO 14001
certification in 2008.
Within this concept of applied standards, the SPIT research
centre has developed two resins for rebar bedding applications.
In accordance with section 5 of the ETAG 001 guidelines
and technical report TR 023 concerning post-installed rebar
connections, all bedding resins must have European Technical
Approval (ETA) as of August 1st 2008.
As with all construction products, this ETA entitles the holder to
display the CE marking on the bedding resins concerned.
Design calculation for rebar connections must now comply with
Eurocode 2 and technical report TR 023 concerning post-installed
rebar connections.
This document is complementary to standing rules for non prestressed concrete. Structures loading capacities are determined
within calculation engineers' design studies.

If drilling is abandoned (existing reinforcements), the hole must be plugged with resin and a new hole drilled.
4 - Hole cleaning
THE RESIN PERFORMANCE IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO ITS ADHESION TO THE CONCRETE.
In order to guarantee the performances stated in our technical documentation, it is essential to comply with the operating
instructions below:
x2
x2
x2
Blow 2 times starting from the far end of the hole and gradually
moving back out. If compressed air is used, it has to be oil-free.
Brush out the hole 2 times using a metal brush adapted to the hole
diameter (1) (use extensions for deep holes).
Blow 2 times starting from the far end of the hole and gradually
moving back out. The return air stream has to be free of noticeable
dust.
If cleaning with compressed air (all drilled holes):
2 blowing and 2 brushing operations.
If cleaning manually (hole 12 to 18 and length < 250 mm):
4 blowing and 4 brushing operations.
After drilling, clean the hole with water until it runs clear
(insert the hose right to the end of the hole).
Brush out the hole 2 times, using a metal brush adapted to the
hole (1) (use extensions for deep holes).
x2
After brushing, clean the hole with water, starting from the far
end of the hole and continuing until the water runs clear.
Blow 2 times, starting from the far end of the hole and
gradually moving back out to drain the water away.

4.1 - FIELD OF APPLICATION
With SPIT EPCON C8 and EPOBAR/EPOMAX resins, the adhesion calculations can be used to determine the anchoring
lengths in the case of application without influence of edge or center distances.
Traction tests are generally performed onsite to validate the minimum anchoring lengths shown in the table below.

This method can be used to verify the design calculations in a fire situation, but must be under no circumstances used as
a subsitute for design calculations at ambient temperature, or in other accident situations, if applicable.
The following pages show fire performance in accordance with the ISO 834 fire curve, following tests and the
assessment carried out by the CSTB for SPIT EPOBAR/EPOMAX and SPIT EPCON C8 resins.

Rd,fi Design resistance in the fire situation.
Ed,fi Design effect of actions in the fire situation This value could be calculated from the calculation at ambient
temperature: Ed,fi = fi x FRdu.
FRdu Design ultimate limit load at normal temperature for one rebar sealing at the anchorage depth Ls (mm).

Example :
Application:
- Design of works for 16 rebars in a parking lot.
- Requirement : fire duration 2 hours.
- Ultimate load: 75 kN.
A
mbient temperature: Anchoring depth according to BAEL for a
75 kNload in a C25/30 concrete.

F
ire proof: fire duration 4 hours for an anchoring depth of 530mm Rd,fi(120 min) = 64,7 kN > 52,5 kN [=0,7 x 75 kN]

Design method for resistance to fire according to Eurocode 2: fire proof using design resistance = Rd,fi Ed,fi
Rd,fi Design resistance in the fire situation.
Ed,fi Design effect of actions in the fire situation This value could be calculated from the calculation at ambient
temperature: Ed,fi = fi x FRdu.
FRdu Design ultimate limit load at normal temperature for one rebar sealing at the anchorage depth Ls (mm).
fi Reduction factor for design load level in the fire situation. fi equals to 0,7.

Example :
Application:
- Design of works for 20 rebars in a parking lot.
- Requirement : fire duration 4 hours.
- Ultimate load: 110 kN.
Ambient temperature : Anchoring depth according to BAEL for a
110 kNload in a C25/30 concrete.

SPIT reserves the right to modify the characteristics of its products at any time. Photos may show
equipment or accessories supplied as an option and not included as standard.
Our products and equipment are intended solely for use by duly trained and qualified
professionals. They must be used strictly in accordance with the instructions shown in the
technical documentation for our products. Since the choice of fixing is subject to strict constraints
depending on the nature of the supporting material, the load to be defined and external
conditions, it is essential to carry out precise calculations and onsite tests. Information available
