Overview
In addition to meeting the state science standards, this course is designed to provide
hands-on experiential learning. Students should expect to find the curriculum rigorous
and engaging as the course will include collaborative work, project-based learning and
interactions with scientists in our community.

Requirements
Before class begins students should take out the necessary items for the day.
Backpacks should be placed under chairs and all phones should be faced down on
desktops. All homework should be turned into the homework tray marked will the
correct period. Class will begin with a review of objectives for the day. As a class we
will review the objects and how they relate to real life situations.
At the end of period students should clean off their desk or lab bench.
Students should also pick up any trash within a three feet radius of the desk or lab
bench area. The teacher will collect any in-class assignments and emphasize the key
points of the lesson. If there is extra time at the end of class students will organize
and/or work on lab notebooks.
When the attention of the classroom is needed the teacher will stand at the
front of the classroom. When the teacher says Subway the class is to respond with

Eat Fresh and then quiet so that the teacher may transition the class between
activities.
Classroom Rules:
Students will:
Turn homework into the homework try before the start of class. (Any assignment turned
in after the start of class is considered late)
Take out the necessary items for the day before the start of class.

organic labs means long pants, close footed shoes, lab coat, goggles, and properly
worn gloves.
Standard Laboratory Practices: You will be required to adhere to the practices below.
If you do not, then the instructor has the right to remove you from lab that day, adjust
your grade, and follow up with consequences accordingly.
1. Always wear your PPE (gloves, goggles, lab coat and close footed shoes)
2. When leaving the lab (even if just going to the stockroom), always remove your gloves
and wash your hands.

Evaluation
Student Work
Homework should be turned in prior to the start of class. Each period will
have an assigned homework tray. All homework should have the students full name
legibly written at the top of the paper. Any name that cannot be read will not be
graded. The homework basket will be collected at the start of the lesson. All
assignments will be graded and handed back to students at the beginning of class. In
class assignments will be collected by the teacher in class and handed back at the
start of the following week. All in class assignments and homework will be posted on
the class web page. Lab procedures will be posted online but must be transferred into
a lab notebook for grading.
Absences
If a student is absent they should check the class web page for a outline of the

day and any in class assignments or homework they missed. All missed assignments
must be printed out and turned in the following day. If the student is unable to print
then the students may turn in a handwritten copy of the assignments the next school
day. If there are any further questions after checking the class web page then the
students may speak to the teacher. All absent work should be turned into the
homework basket with Absent clearly written across the top of the page.
Late Work
Late work will be accepted up until a week after the due date. All late work
will receive half credit. Late work will be turned into the coordinating late
workbasket for that period. If homework is not turned into the homework basket
before the start of the lesson then the assignment is considered late.
Grading
All homework and tests will be graded and handed back in one weeks time. In class
assignments will be graded at the end of the week and handed back at the start of the
next week. Grades will follow the scale
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 0-59%
Grades will be rounded to the nearest whole percent. If a student does not agree with
a grade given then the student may resubmit the assignment/test for regarding with
an attached argument of why they should receive points for missed problems.
