DeskTopBinder Professional

This document contains instructions for installing DeskTopBinder
Professional using Web SmartDeviceMonitor Professional IS. Read it
carefully before you install DeskTopBinder Professional using Web
SmartDeviceMonitor Professional IS.

Follow the procedure below to create a customized installer and install
DeskTopBinder Professional:
1. Copy the installer files
Copy the DESK folder(*) and all the items within the folder from the
CD-ROM root directory to a local folder.
(*) Note that there is another DESK folder in the <CD-ROM root>\DESK
folder. The folder you copy here is the DESK folder in the CD-ROM
root directory, not the <CD-ROM root>\DESK\DESK folder.
2. Customize the settings
Note that the installer started in customize mode described below is
used only to create a customized installer. It does not install
DeskTopBinder Professional.
(1) Start the exe file copied in Step 1 in customize mode. To do
that, run the DESK\Setup.exe file copied in Step 1 with a command
option g+c h from a command prompt.
Note that gSetup.exe h you execute here is stored directly under
the DESK folder in the local folder. Do not start
gDESK\DESK\Setup.exe h.
(2) In the window appears, click [Next].
(3) Enter user information (user name, company name, and serial
number) and click [Next].
(4) In the dialog box for selecting overwrite installation method
that will be applied when DeskTopBinder Professional is already
installed on a client computer, specify whether to continue using
existing settings or overwrite existing settings with the
settings of the customized installer.
(5) In the dialog box for selecting functions, select the check boxes
for the programs you want to install, and then click [Next].
Click [Details] to select functions in details, if necessary,
and click [OK].
(6) Select the installation location, and then click [Next].
The default installation location is <PROGRAMFILES>\RDS, where
<PROGRASMFILES> is the Program Files folder of a client
computer.

(7) Specify the cabinet path, and then click [Next].


The default cabinet path is <SYSTEM_DRIVE>\RDCab, where
<SYSTEM_DRIVE> is the system drive of a client computer.
You cannot specify a network folder as the cabinet path.
(8) Select the applications whose shortcuts you want to add to the
Windows Startup folder, and then click [Next].
(9) To incorporate Extended Features setting information saved using
Save Extended Features in the customized installer, specify the
g.exe h file saved by Save Extended Features, and then click
[Next].
(10) Check to ensure the registration information and setup details of
the installation location are correct, and click [OK]. Customize
mode quits, and the setting information is applied to the
installer.
3. Execute Installation
Install DeskTopBinder Professional using Web SmartDeviceMonitor
Professional IS. See the document for instructions on how to use
SmartDeviceMonitor Professional IS.
[Applicable scope]
The customized installer can be used for:
* New installation of DeskTopBinder Professional
* Upgrade installation from an old version of DeskTopBinder
Professional
The version of SmartDeviceMonitor Professional IS that supports
DeskTopBinder Professional is IS 02.02.01 and later.
[Notes/Limitations]
1. You cannot install the following applications using Web
SmartDeviceMonitor Professional IS. Install these applications from
the DeskTopBinder Professional CD-ROM.
* Acrobat Elements
* Acrobat Reader
You also need to launch [PDF Conversion Setup], which executes the
setup for PDF conversion, from the DeskTopBinder Professional
CD-ROM.
2. Depending on the environment, RICOH

3. When installing DeskTopBinder Professional on Windows 98 SE / Me,

after installation. If this message appears, restart your computer.

4. Installation path
* When an old version of DeskTopBinder Professional is installed,
the current installation path is used as the installation path.
* When one or more of the products that can be installed and used
with DeskTopBinder Professional on the same computer (see
ReadMe.txt for details) are installed, the installation path of
the products is used as the installation path.
5. Cabinet path
When an old version of DeskTopBinder Professional is installed,
the current cabinet path is used as the cabinet path.
6. If DeskTopBinder Professional cannot be installed in your computer
environment using the normal installation procedure, nor can it be
installed using this installation method.
7. The following applications are automatically uninstalled if they
have already been installed on the computer:

8. If you install DeskTopBinder Professional on the computer where


DeskTopBinder Professional older than V5 is already installed, all
the functions are installed no matter which functions you have
selected while creating the customized installer, except for
SmartDeviceMonitor for Client. The selected functions for
SmartDeviceMonitor for Client are valid.
9. All the settings on the customized installer are valid if you are
upgrading from V5 or later version of DeskTopBinder Professional.
10. You must restart your computer after installing DeskTopBinder
Professional.
11. If the installation fails, an error code is displayed. See the
following for details of error code:

The specified installation path is the installation path or
cabinet path of DeskTopBinder or ScanRouter Browser.
When installing DeskTopBinder Professional in the environment
where DeskTopBinder Professional and DeskTopBinder /
ScanRouter Browser are already installed, the current cabinet
path cannot be specified as the cabinet path.
The specified cabinet path is in use.
The specified cabinet path is a subfolder of an existing
cabinet.
The specified cabinet path is a cabinet of another product.
The specified installation path is the current cabinet path.
You don ft have write access to the specified cabinet path.
