Growing Local and The Market Gardeners Toolkit. Kootenay farmers will likely know of the success and fame of
Quebec market gardener Jean-Martin Fortier. After his
best-selling book The Market Gardener was published
by BCs New Society Publishers, the book has landed in
the hands of many existing and aspiring farmers in the
Kootenays. The Market Gardeners Toolkit offers a visual
accompaniment to the book and Fortier will be on hand
via the Internet to answer questions from the audience.
Growing Local is a series of three short films produced for
the Maine Farmland Trust.
In the evening at 6:30 pm, the Spirit Bar at The Hume
hosts the Festivals Closing Party with the Festival tradition 2-buck-a-shuck oyster bar by Nelsons own Brent the

Womens Circus Rolls Into Town
Womaginarium also features a marketplace of delights

with face and body painters, a henna artist, fortune tellers and Tarot as well as poetry on the spot, so you can
get sparkly and painted up on the spot. Our silent auction
will showcase of some pretty nice stuff from our generous
business community. Tickets are available at Mountain
Baby or Otter Books, both on Baker Street in Nelson.
This evening of fun supports the work of the Nelson
and District Womens Centre. The Centre aims at creating healthy community through providing support and
resources for all women and advancing gender equality.
Located at 420 Mill Street, we are a place for women to
connect, learn and be actively engaged in their lives and
wider community.

What happens when a plethora of amazing women performers give their all to an event to support other women?
Womaginarium!
This years Nelson and District Womens Centres annual
fundraiser on Friday, November 18 promises to be a carnival of wonders and delights. The circus-themed event
features performances ranging from sensuous belly dance
to uplifting music, from sexy burlesque to outrageous puppets. Scarlet Mary Rose and Erin Eat Your Heart Out, the
Jenny Robinson Band, Slava Dovals Dance Fusion, Catherine McGrath of Shteve, Spiral Motion Hooping, puppets
with Nikki Cole and Kalliope Dance Troupe are among the
performers. Filmmaker Amy Bohigian will wear the emcee
top hat under the big tent (aka the Lakeside Prestige Resort).
