MISSION STATEMENT
St. Damien of Molokai is a Catholic parish family which recognizes and
embraces the gifts and talents of our faith filled people. The life of our
patron saint inspires us to lead lives of love, hope and charity. Moving
forward, we will grow through our liturgy, teachings and outreach to all,
with the help of God and the gifts received through the Holy Eucharist.

Rest In Peace
In the charity of your prayers we kindly ask that
you please pray for the repose of the souls of
Michael Brna, brother of William Brna of our
parish, and Arthur Larson, step-father of Debbie Antonelli and Sharon Gamble of our parish.
May God grant them eternal rest, may Perpetual
Light shine upon their souls and may all the
souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy
of God, Rest In Peace.
ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS: All volunteers
are required to sign a waiver for fingerprinting for
their volunteer file. Forms are located in the back
of the church in the old baptistery. Signed forms
can be placed in the collection basket. Failure to
do so will cause your file to be archived and the
volunteer non-compliant.
FAITH FORMATION
Page Three
This week we were reminded of the freedom we enjoy which has been defended
by many dedicated men and women who have served in our nations armed forces. We recognize these honorable citizens and commend them for their action.
We extend our gratitude to all who have served and especially those who have
given their lives in service to our country. As Catholic Christians it is our prayer
that one day all people in the world will live in peace because we have acted in
justice. May the Holy Spirit grant us the grace to promote the Gospel of life and
foster the Kingdom of God in our midst. We welcome all veterans who are joining us this weekend at Mass and say, once again, THANK YOU VETERANS!
The planning initiative ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! continues in the essential phase of consultation. Parishioners are learning about changes taking place in our communities and the Church of Pittsburgh. Theyre also giving feedback on draft models of potential
groupings of parishes that come together to form new parishes. As meetings are completed in
each vicariate, the presentations are available at OnMissionChurchAlive.org.
Lighting of the Advent Wreath Beginning Nov. 26/27
For the Advent Season we extend an invitation to parishioners to consider
lighting the wreath during Mass. The wreath lighting reminds us that Christ is
The Light of the World who is coming into the world! Individuals or families
are invited to sign-up as representatives who will light the wreath following the
opening procession of the Mass. If you are willing to help light the wreath
please sign up on the Sign-Up sheet located near the front door of the church.
Advent Giving Program 2016
This years Advent Giving Program will again invite all parishioners to donate to our parish Food
Bank. Parishioners are invited to take an Advent Ornament upon which will be written a particular
food need. Baskets with the Advent Ornament will be located at the doors of the churches. The number of boxes or cans purchased is entirely up to the donor. We appreciate any and all donations of
various amounts and sizes. We also will have ornaments that say Foodland, Giant Eagle or Sheetz
gift card. We are asking for $10.00 gift cards from the above named stores. These cards can be distributed by the Food Bank or from the Parish Office as needs arise. Advent donations to the Food
Bank may be placed in the foyer of the church and gift cards may be placed in an envelope and put in
the collection basket.

Pastoral Impressions
by Fr. Bill
. . . .and they will put some of
you to death . . . but not a hair on
your head will be destroyed.
In one breath Jesus is talking about all sorts of
really scary stuffearthquakes and famines and
plagues and persecutions and imprisonment and
even death, and in the other breath hes assuring
us that well be fine, that well be ok, that,
by your perseverance you will
secure your lives.
Of course the apparent conflicting statements of
Jesus arent really conflicting at all. We know
that in faith. When Jesus makes those two statements hes almost certainly talking about two
very different things: the LITTLE picture and
the BIG picture. Little picture doesnt in any
way mean insignificant or simple or
easy. These are the things we experience in
this lifethe ups and downs, the joys and the
sorrows. These are the crosses very single one
of us faces in one way or anotherthe illnesses
and broken relationships and lost jobs, the worrisome money problems and the children going
down the wrong path and the concerns of our
elderly parents, the deaths of loved ones and our
failing minds and bodies and our family struggles. These are only little in relation to the
big picturethe life that continues through it
all and lives on into eternity.
