Over-emphasizing achievements

Refrain from using superlatives to describe the impact of task done unless that job was
well appreciated by the management itself. Using words like 'super-duper success',
'stupendous job done' to describe your task may draw unwanted attention from the
higher managers.

Mentioning your team achievements

Appraisal is for you to describe your personal accomplishments, individually or in a
team task. If you mention the entire team's brownie points as your own, then you may
be inviting trouble from the appraiser.
Only mentioning the positives
An appraiser will not be too happy if you only talk about achievements alone. Mention
your learning and job takeaway also.
Talking about numbers only
While most of us have quantifiable targets mentioned in the KRA sheet, it makes sense
to talk about task quality also. Do dedicate a line or two about quality analysis of your
work.
Treating your word as final
Every organization gives an employee a chance to speak about his/her case during
appraisal time. Use this time to take the appraiser feedback and expectations as well. It
will help in grooming you for next round of KRA settings.
