Chiropractic
Medicine
I,Rosa Whitehead, am mentoring a
Chiropractor at Bergeson
Chiropractic,in Friendswood,for this
Fall semester of Independent Study
Mentorship taught by Mrs.Click.
What is Independent
Study Mentorship?
ISM is an advance academic course designed for students
wishing to mentor an adult professional in a chosen career.
Through out the semester, the student will meet with their
mentor for 3 hours a week by leaving the campus on Tuesday's,
Thursday's, and occasionally Friday's,completing activity logs,
journal entries and a portfolio on their Weeb.ly website, show
casing assignments completed.
Every student must develop a final product and presentation for
the end of the semester that will be counted as a final exam
grade.
Basics of Chiropractic
Medicine
Chiropractors use spinal adjustments, deep
tissue massages and a form of physical
therapy to relieve neck and back pain.
The founder of Chiropractic methods is D.D
Palmer.
He had a theory that proper alignment of
the body's spinal cord will enable it to heal
itself.
Whip Lash
I chose the topic of the effects of whip lash on
the body and the treatment because
Chiropractors deal with a lot of car accident
victims, sport injuries,amusement park ride
injuries.
Whiplash is caused
by sudden backward or
.
forward movement of the head, often caused by
a car accident.
Common symptoms of whip lash are neck pain
and neck stiffness, head aches, and dizziness.
How is it
Diagnosed?
If you have any of the common
symptoms, such as severe neck
pain, numbness stiffness,
weakness or headaches, they
will do an x-ray to verify the pain
isn't connected to any other
type of injury. This allows them
to see the damage to the soft
tissues.
Treatment
Home treatments include over-the-counter
drugs and ice.
Chiropractors use
spinal manipulation,
heat stimulators,
relaxation techniques,
and rehabilitative and
general exercise to
relieve the stress.
Research
For this assignment I'm required to
included 4 research sources to in
cooperate into my presentation.
I will use valuable information from
these sources in my key points of this
project.
Tangible Item
The product I'll be making for this project
is a video demonstration of a normal
treatment for Whip Lash.
My mentor will demonstrate the
techniques and I'll have my voice
recording, describing what he is doing. I'll
in cooperate pictures and words in the
video and it will be presented after the
slide describing the treatment.
Conclusion
Any
Questions?
