The end of the poverty
The documentary The End of Poverty directed by award-winning filmmaker Philippe Diaz
(2008), reveals that poverty is not an accident. It begins showing the real causes of forced labor
and the seizure of land and minerals, all due to military conquest, slavery and colonization in the
centuries. Philippe Diaz says that today 80% of the resources of the planet are use just by 20% of
the whole population of the planet and 30% of this resources, the planet cant regenerate. This
behavior, like in centuries, is the result of wealthy countries exploiting the weaknesses of poor
underdevelopment countries. The documentary explains that the consequence of maintain our
lifestyle is that more and more people will sink below the poverty line. According to Diaz the
financial crisis that exist today is a direct consequence of the behavior of lasted centuries. I am
agree with Diaz in two points: if we continue with our behavior the poverty will increase and the
powerful countries take advantage of the weak countries.
First of all, if we dont change our habits we will destroy not just our planet but also the right of
all humans to live a dignity life. It is man him/herself and our greedy need to contain all power,
all wealth and all abundance. As humans we believe that there is a limited to supply to wealth
and therefore we do our best to keep it from others. We are so selfish. The richest countries are
consuming more than they need, far more than they need, while the majority part of population
starves. They are the minority of the population in the planet but they consume more than the
planet can support. Statistics shows that if we continue in this way, in the future, people will die,
and this will not happen just to the poor part of the planet. So, for this reasons we have to find a
new way to handle our resources distributing them on an equal basis.
Second of all, through the history the most powerful countries take advantage of the weak
countries. Not only the countries, people like individuals are inclined to their benefits, no matter
what they have to do to achieve their goals. The same way the countries. They see the needs that
the underdevelopment countries have, so they offer them a way to live a life more dignity, but it
is not what happens because they dont take care about the quality of life of the people, they just
think in their benefits. For example, third World countries are less developed so, the majority of
people (those who are not rich) work in places that are not very optimal to work and they dont
receive the payment that they deserve. This dont permit that working people developed
themselves and its countries. But this is what the richest countries want because they may be
further developed.
When we lose all the common sense, we lose the sensibility to take the place that other is
occupying, so we lose the conscience. We have to take the others place. I think that is important

to talk about this problems because it affects at the most part the population of the planet.
Poverty is a huge problem that attacks every country in different ways, so we must have to leave
our selfish thinking and we have to start to think in the common good. One way to left the
poverty is change the politics, centuries ago was more difficult than now. Time ago, the most
powerful countries just take places as they want, without any type of rules because the rules of
that time was too much different than today. Now, we can raise our voices and change some
politics decisions. I know that this is a crazy thought, but I think that Walt Disney had reason
when he said if you can dream it you can do it. So we have to do our best to see the change
that we want to do.
