Overview
This reading enrichment unit will be taught to the library assistants each
period as they come to work in the school library. They already have a good
understanding of the books already in the library, but this lesson will help to
enrich their knowledge. The unit will cover what banned books are, introduce
well known books that are on the list, and allow students to research some of
their favorite books that have may have made it on the banned books list.

Lesson:

The presenter will display the


slideshow presentation and
engage the participants in oral
discussion of primary sources,
where they have found them
before for their students, and
how they use them in their
classes. The presenter will then
go on to show the different parts
of the Library of Congress
website and have the
participants engaged with
finding their own primary
sources on the website.

Summary

The participants came back to


me after the presentation and
wanted a copy of the
presentation to show to their
students. They incorporated it
into their lesson plan!
