PBA LEAGUE
By Vince Albrecht
West Haverstraw, NY The Stan Niemiec Youth Travel League venue
was Hi-Tor Lanes where the 15-year-old Chamberlain twins Wade and
Tom went amok blasting the maples with 264-223-220: 707 and 222243-195: 660 respectively in leading Holiday II to a 3008-2714 [27-5]
triumph over short-handed T-Bowl. The winners also benefited from
Esteban Garcias 201 while T-Bowls centerpiece was 14-year-old Tom
Luchetta who finished his opener by stringing together ten strikes for
268, the sessions best game.
Hi-Tor Is home field advantage paid off big time as the league leaders overwhelmed Montvale, 28-4 behind the triple deuce prowess of
Johnny Toscano 228-244-219: 691 and Nick Varano 227-236-206: 669.
Pacing Montvales offense was Nick Fabiano 228: 610 and Joseph
Mahoney a 216 opening post.
Lodi emerged from the cellars darkness with a blue-chip exploit as the
squad jarred the pin deck with 3176, the leagues best gross set to date,
in swamping Holiday I, despite three 600s fashioned by the latter. In
his first appearance of the season for Lodi, 15-year-old Nick Greco fired
an impressive triple deuce 259-214-212: 685 while superb numbers
were posted as well by 14-year-old Jake Nappi 201-246-199: 646 and
Hawthorne sophomore Hunter Perry 202-223: 612. Holiday Is high
rollers were Pompton Lakes junior David Neil 220-202-226: 648, Frank
Magyar 213-198-212: 623, Alex McGuire 245: 601 and Ramsey junior
Angela Dinallo a 213 single.
Kyle Schellberg blasted 256-218: 668 and had ample support from his
distaff teammates: Gabriella Pangaro 220, Janina Santoro 221-200 and
Kristen Kane 217 as Bowler City I took out Bowler City II, 2818-2660
[26-6]. The latters top scores came from Dickinson junior Matt
Burzynski and Hackensack sophomore Arielle Wallace, both finishing
with a opening game 200.
All eight teams were given the opportunity to protect three players from their 2016 rosters prior to the draft.
Among the 40 players selected for 2017 were two women, Professional Womens Bowling Association
champions Liz Johnson (Portland Lumberjacks) and Danielle McEwan (NYC WTT KingPins).
The PBA League will return to the newly-reconstructed Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine, in April for its
fifth season of competition. All matches in pursuit of the Elias Cup will be televised on ESPN.
The 2017 rosters, including the respective team managers and pending any trades that might be made, will
be:
Dallas Strikers (player-manager Norm Duke): Norm Duke, Tommy Jones, Bill ONeill, Rhino Page, B.J.
Moore.
NYC WTT KingPins (manager Carolyn Dorin-Ballard): Pete Weber, Marshall Kent, John Szczerbinski,
Danielle McEwan, Sam Cooley.
Motown Muscle (manager Del Ballard Jr.): E.J. Tackett, Anthony Simonsen, Josh Blanchard, Francois
Lavoie, Dick Allen.
Portland Lumberjacks (manager Tim Mack): Wes Malott, Ryan Ciminelli, Liz Johnson, Kyle Troup,
Bryon Smith.
Silver Lake Atom Splitters (manager Mark Baker): Chris Barnes, Tom Daugherty, Jesper Svensson,
Shawn Maldonado, D.J. Archer.
Brooklyn Styles (manager Johnny Petraglia): Sean Rash, Parker Bohn III, Walter Ray Williams Jr., Jason
Sterner, Jon Van Hees.

Butturff.
Philadelphia Hitmen (manager Jason Couch): Dom Barrett; Tom Smallwood; Chris Loschetter, Ronnie
Russell, Dave Wodka.
The PBA League draft was covered live by PBAs Xtra Frame online video-streaming service and was hosted by South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.
PBA League competition will begin with a new seven-game round-robin team competition on April 13 to
determine the seeding for the ESPN television finals, which will be contested April 15-16. ESPN will air the
two quarterfinal rounds of PBA League competition on April 23 and 30, the semifinals on May 7, and the Elias
Cup finals on May 14.
