It is estimated that the average no. of surface defects in 20 m 2 of paper produced by a

process is 3. What is the probability of finding no more than 3 defects in 40 m 2 of
paper through random selection?

Q.4. A Company is running a CNC milling centre that produced components on a schedule of
two 8 hour shifts, 6 days per week. The company had planned downtime of 20 minutes for
lunch per shift plus four 10 minute break per shift while the total actual downtime losses
(Non-planned) averaged 600 minutes per week. The milling centre produced 11223
components during actual operating time. If design cycle time is 0.2 minutes per
component and total there were 200 rejected components during the week, then determine:
i.
Availability Rate
ii. Performance rate
iii.
Quality rate
iv. Overall Equipment Efficiency
[4 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10]
Q.5. Consider the seven component system shown in the Figure - 1. Assume that time to failure
for each component has an exponential distribution. The failure rates are as follows: A =
0.0005/h, B = 0.0005/h, C = 0.0003/h, D = 0.0008/h, E = 0.0004/h, F = 0.006/h, G =
0.0064/h,
