Review of research paper

The author focused on to investigate the high costs, dissatisfaction of employees, investors,
and clients, terms of execution (term plans), and unadjusted marketing plans. The 21st
century presents challenges of considering and targeting attention towards a greater
stakeholder-focused approach to meet the expectations of project stakeholders (Walker and
Keniger 2002). Miller and Floricel (2000) noted that the preparation for the project is
important for successfully completing projects. Preparing for the project after the project
facilitates risk managemnet. Project-focused industries, such as construction, were not as
customer-focused as some other industries (Bryde and Robinson 2007). Egan (1998) stated
that within five years of his study, the construction industry should deliver its products to its
customers in the same way as the best customer-led manufacturing and service industries, as
cited in Bryde and Robinson (2007).
Descriptive and analytic research methods were used to analyze the data. Hypotheses were
tested with data that were acquired by a structured phone interview and a prepared structured
questionnaire. Thirty-five Slovene organizations of different sizes (micro, small, medium, and
large companies) in the construction industry were randomly selected. In 2007, project
managers of these firms was contacted by phone, and they were asked about to participate in
the study. Primary data were used for organizations in construction for testing the hypotheses
H1a and H1b; H2a and H2b. Respondents statements were measured on a five-point scale .
The following hypotheses were investigated for project management use:
H1a. There is a negative relationship between project management use in Slovene
organizations in the construction industry and penalties caused by project delays.
H1b. There is a positive relationship between project management use in Slovene
organizations in the construction industry and project quality.
H2a. There is a negative relationship between marketing management use in Slovene
organizations in the construction industry and penalties caused by project delays.
H2b. There is a positive relationship between marketing management use in Slovene
organizations in the construction industry and project quality.
H3. There is a positive relationship between project management use and marketing
management use in Slovene organizations in construction industry.
The correlation coefficient between variables project management use in organization and
average delays per project was 0.124; however. it was not significantly different from zero
at the level of 0.05 (p 0.513), which means that data do not confirm a relationship between
these two variables. Thus hypothesis H1a cannot be accepted. It can be concluded that
Slovene organizations in the construction industry have not effectively used project
management as a means to shorten project delays. The hypothesis H1b was confirmed
because correlation coefficients among investigated variables do show a relationship. A

negative relationship was established between marketing management use in Slovene

organizations in the construction industry and penalties caused by project delays, as a positive
correlation coefficient is the consequence of applied measurement scale, for which 5 indicates
that delays were reduced, and 1 indicates that delays were not reduced. It was concluded that
managers of Slovene companies in the construction industry have the opinion that penalties
were not reduced in spite of marketing management use. Thus, hypothesis H2a was not
accepted. The hypothesis H2b, was not accepted. Marketing management use does not have
an influence on project quality. From the results of correlation analysis, it was established for
H3 that the correlation coefficient between variables In which extent do your organization
use project management? and In which extent do your organization use marketing
management? was 0.451, and it was significantly different from zero at the level of 0.05 (p
0.012), which indicates that data confirm a relationship between these two variables. Thus
H3, was accepted.
