Trattore Farms
Award-winning, Estate-grown Wines and Locally Milled Olive Oils
Trattore Farms, home to wines and olive oil, have moved to their estate vineyard
after seven years of construction. The tasting room leads to an outdoor patio with
expansive views of this premier winegrowing region of Dry Creek Valley,
synonymous for Zinfandel. Owner Tim Bucher sustainably farms 15 acres of
vineyards to produce small-lot vintages of Rhne varietals such as Grenache, Syrah,
Mourvedre, Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier. Olive oil is produced on-site from
10 acres of olive orchards ranging from one year to 180 years old using an Italian
stone and hammer mill.
Fun Facts
The tasting room just had its grand opening in late 2015.
It is the scenic backdrop for casual or intimate gatherings.
A wood-fired pizza oven, barbecue and culinary kitchen
provide capabilities for gourmet wine, olive oil and food
pairings. Buchers ties to the music industry, as chairman of
the Grammy Foundation, bring well-known acts for special
events, such as a recent Farm-Aid benefit led by Grace Potter
and
John Mellencamp.
Tim Bucher has an affinity for tractors since he was young, hence the winerys name and
the tractor logo on the wine bottles.
Tim grew up in Healdsburg on his family-owned dairy farm in Russian River Valley. He
began making wine when he was 17 years old.
Wine club members receive wine and olive oil in their shipments.
Trattores culinary kitchen allows for food pairings, guest chefs and corporate retreats.

A Gardeners Delight
It is a tasting room, of course, so familiar wines are there
for exploring, including all the popular favorites, and some
you may not have seen at home. After all, there are 23
varietals available, with six variations on Moscato, including a
bubbly, White Zinfandel (full throated Red Zin as well) of
course, and classic versions of Chardonnay, Cabernet, Pinot
Noir, Merlot and more.
This is the place for souvenirs both serious and whimsical.
The shoppers amongst you will delight at the selections,
including some laugh out loud reminders that wine can and
should be enjoyed without pretentions.
Sutter Home, of course is equally well known for its Build
A Better Burger campaign each year, one of the most
successful food and wine experiences ever created. But even
more impressive are the winerys efforts each year to fight
cancer.
Its easy to miss if you rush on by, but one of the most compelling reasons to stop at
Sutter Home are the immaculate gardens and the lovingly maintained 19th Century
Victorian mansion that stands proudly alongside the Visitors Center. Camellias
planted in 1876 hint at the wonders youll find as you wander the grounds.
The White Zinfandel Garden was established in 1874, and features 100 different roses,
enough to make any rosarian swoon. Around a Gazebo, some tree roses are marked by
when they were first planted, including a Double Delight (1997), Secret (1994) and
Peace (1945). These are roses unlike the modern hybrid versions. Aromas fill the air
and recall a calmer, simpler time. There are 40 varieties of Day Lilies, and a stately
Canary Islands Palm tree, one of the finest examples in all of Napa Valley.
Its been quite a year for Miljenko Mike Grgich and team over at Grgich
Hills Estate. Not only have they commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the
famed Judgement of Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 where Grgichs 1973 Chateau
Montelena Chardonnay outscored the best white wines in France, but Mike also
turned 93 years old. And if thats not reason enough to celebrate, the 2016
vintage also marked his 58th harvest in winemaking. Given the huge historical
significance of these achievements, it seems only fitting to celebrate them in
exquisite style with the release of the 2013 Grgich Hills Estate Paris Tasting
Chardonnay a nod to the unprecedented win which turned the wine-world on
its head and firmly placed Napa on the map as one of the worlds top grapegrowing regions. This highly allocated wine showcases the Old Wente Clone
fruit from their oldest estate Chardonnay vineyard in Carneros. Its done
without a traditional secondary malolactic fermentation in order to preserve
the fresh flavors and pleasing acidity. The current vintage (as all previous
bottlings) carries a sales price that matches Mikes age upon releaseso for this
year $93/bottle. Its reserved for the tasting room and wine club members only
(due to the limited production) and is a must-taste (and buy!) when visiting.

Picture this you are driving along Sonoma and Napas gently curving back roads,
watching the vine-striped hills and oak-studded pastures flash by your car, and
suddenly, there it is a breathtakingly beautiful French Chateu, sitting atop a vinecovered knoll. Meticulous vineyards and beautifully manicured landscaping surround
the property. You simply must stop and check this place out!
Domaine Carneros was founded in 1987 by Claude Taittinger, because he felt that
the 138-acre parcel in the heart of Carneros would be a worthy counterpart to his
familys Domaine Taittenger in France. He chose Eileen Crane to oversee the
development of the winery and vineyards and to create the perfect California
expression of the Taittenger style in Carneros.

This year, adults wont be the only guests that can taste, sip and swirl their way through
the event. Kids can also get their own passport to enjoy special kid-friendly snacks and
activities geared just for them. Adults can partake in tastings poured by more than two
dozen wineries and nibble on creative and tasty seasonal bites by some of Yountvilles
award-winning restaurants.
Tasting tickets are $30 for adult general admission, which includes a tasting passport
and GoVino glass. For $55, adults can purchase a Platinum Pass which includes unlimited
food and wine tasting and a GoVino glass. Passports for children 12 and under are $5 for
kids to enjoy child-friendly snacks and activities. Tasting tickets include access to all event
activities.

Matanzas Creek hosts several events that bring out the best of each season,
highlighting the wines that they are so proud to call their own. From Saturday,
December 3, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, December 4, at 4:00 p.m., Matanzas
Creek Winery will have live music, small bites, Matanzas Creek wines, lavender
crafts, gift wrapping and plenty of holiday cheer for $20 per person.
Let the road take you to Matanzas Creek Winery, a place that offers something for the wine lover, the gardener and the epicurian. Matanzas Creek, which
put the bucolic east Santa Rosa neighborhood of Bennett Valley on the map,
took its name from the creek that drains away the runoff in the valley. The area
enjoys a unique microclimate among North Coast appellations, with cooling
influences from several frontsthe Russian River Valley and Petaluma Gap
from the west and southwest, and the San Pablo Bay to the south and southeast.
Matanzas Creek produces a wide range of wines that reflect the viticultural
diversity of Bennett Valley and Sonoma County. Currently the winery is showcasing the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec and
Cabernet Sauvignon.

EPA Honors Jackson Family Wines with Green Power Leadership Award
First wine company to be named
green power partner of the year for onsite
renewables
Jackson Family Wines announced that it
has received a 2016 Green Power Leadership
Award from the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). EPAs annual Green
Power Leadership Awards recognize the
countrys leading green power users for their
commitment and contribution to helping
advance the development of the nations
voluntary green power market. EPA
presented Jackson Family Wines with a Green
Power Partner of the Year award at the 2016
Renewable Energy Markets Conference in
San Francisco on October 17, 2016.
Jackson Family Wines was one of only
three organizations nationwide to be chosen
as a Green Power Partner of the Year. With
this award, EPA recognizes Green Power
Partners that distinguish themselves through
their leadership, overall strategy and impact
on the green power market. Jackson Family
Wines is currently using nearly 44 million
kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power
annually, which is enough green power to
meet 113 percent of the organizations overall
electricity use. In addition, according to
independent research, Jackson Family Wines
is the largest solar generator in the US wine
industry, generating electricity from 6.5MW
of onsite solar energy systems installed across
nine wineries. Per calculations based on
Energy Information Administration
numbers, this electricity production will
offset over 1,400 California homes worth of
annual electricity consumption per year. By
choosing clean, renewable energy, Jackson
Family Wines is accelerating the transition to
a more sustainable energy future.
It is a great honor to be the first winery
selected by the EPA as a Green Power Partner
of the Year, said Katie Jackson, VP
Sustainability and External Affairs. Our
investment in renewable energy is driven by
my familys commitment to make the highest
quality wines in the most responsible
manner. As a family owned business
committed to remaining viable for multiple
generations, we are excited to be leaders in
demonstrating the value of green power in
supporting energy independence and

If you plan to take wine home with you, either in the car or on
a plane, buy a cardboard box with Styrofoam wine inserts. Fill it
during the day and this keeps wine from rolling around in the
trunk.
Check out the smaller wineries. It is a revelation.
Take notes on the wines you most enjoyed.
Take advantage of tours when the winery offers them, but keep
in mind that they take anywhere from 20 minutes to well over an
hour, so one a day is plenty.
Buy wines that you can only find at the winery. These often include smaller (375 ml) bottles of limited production ports or
dessert wines. Dont buy a wine you can get at a supermarket back
home.
Dont give too much thought to ratings and vintages. Its like
art: if you like it, its a good wine. It is as simple as that.
Remember that you dont have to do the driving. It takes no
more than a phone call to rent anything from a Town Car or restored Packard convertible to stretch limos and a 20-passenger bus.
All have drivers that will stow your wine for you and the local companies know the area. Tell the transportation company what you
have in mind and listen to their advice. They know the territory
and the people and personalities.
Know your limits. If you get close to it let others taste and you
can listen. It beats ending the day in a blur, and if need be calling
a taxi is cheaper than the alternative.
And if at a seated tasting, dont be afraid to leave a gratuity. Its
more than worth the five or ten dollars to get wisdom and wine
and a great time.
By Charles Neave
Do the Math
One of the questions most asked when it comes to wine is how much of this does it take to make that, and so on. We wont pretend that its simple, but here are some industry statistics that will give a pretty good
answer to that query. As with anything agricultural, of course, they are all based on countless variables when it comes to acre yields, but this is a good starting point. The rest of the information varies little if at all.

pairing, and wine tasting experiences for both the wine novice and
expert.
The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards uses locally grown organic
ingredients and features ingredient-driven California wine country
cuisine. While the menu holds its foundation in American dishes, it is
influenced by French and Italian provincial cuisine. The seasonal menu
changes daily, utilizing produce from The Restaurants organic garden.
Wente Vineyards is also the only winery in Livermore Valley to
offer a championship 18-hole public golf course.
Family, food, entertainment, and of course, the wines beckon
visitors to experience the legacy that is Wente Vineyards.
VASCO ROAD
Livermore Valley, with its rich heritage and variety of wine tasting
experiences, should be a top destination that people consider when
planning their next wine country getaway. As the countrys oldest,
continuously operated, family-owned winery and Californias First
Family of Chardonnay, Wente Vineyards would be a good place to
start the journey. The winery, led by fourth and fifth generation family
members, has clearly proven their leadership both in winegrowing
and in being one of Californias premier wine country destinations.
The Winemakers Studio is an option for consumers to learn more
about wine. This state-of-the-art wine education studio offers an
intimate, behind-the-scenes look at grape growing, wine and food
