4. School Report
4.1. Partitions:
4.1.1. New superintendent reviewing new process and will provide an update
4.2. Nutrition Program:
4.2.1. New morning meal program will start in Nov/Dec, with registration info to go out Friday
4.2.2. Food must be served before morning recess
4.2.3. Subsidized by provincial/municipal and grants Toronto Foundation for School Success, with
balance covered by participating families
4.2.3.1. Estimated cost of $20 for Nov/Dec at 2 days/wk, and cost will be re-evaluated as it ramps up
to 5 days/wk in the new year
4.2.4. Participation is completely voluntary
4.2.5. Food is prepared by volunteers who receive a small honorarium
4.2.6. QUESTION: Is this a meal or a snack?
4.2.6.1. Technically called a meal as it covers 3 food groups. Snacks are defined as only covering 2
food groups.
4.2.7. QUESTION: How much did we get as a grant?
4.2.7.1. $12,000 for the year
4.2.7.2. Grant rules require that participants must partially fund operational costs
4.2.8. QUESTION: Can parents opt to participate for some days, but not others?
4.2.8.1. Once ramped up, the program will be all or none. No ability to pick and choose days.
4.2.9. QUESTION: Logistics. Does it interrupt academic teaching before recess?
4.2.9.1. Specific procedures are being finalized. Food will be sent up to each room and distributed
within the room, but intended to minimize interruption to teaching. Food must be eaten in
the class
4.2.10. QUESTION: How will this work with JK/SK classes, as they have stations and not assigned desks?
4.2.10.1. Logistics may need to be different due to having different centres/stations
4.2.11. QUESTION: What about students who are in phys ed in the morning?
4.2.11.1. We will need to figure out logistics and potentially make exceptions for those classes
4.2.12. QUESTION: Will portion sizes differ for younger kids? (ie. Will they still eat their lunch?)
4.2.12.1. No. Portion size should be the same for all students
4.2.13. QUESTION: For kids that don't participate, do they get to eat their snack from home at the same
time?
4.2.13.1. No, they would need to eat snacks from home during recess
4.3. Preferred date for meeting with new Superintendent
4.3.1. ACTION: Sarah Frost to ask for earlier meeting availability and for updates on York Mills CI PART
and partition process (Action #103 from May 2016)
4.4. Roofing update:
4.4.1. Slightly behind schedule due to bad weather this past week
4.4.2. Work on lower part of the roof will close down the pavement on the north side of the school
4.4.3. Planned to be completed within a couple of weeks (assuming weather cooperates)
4.5. EQAO:
4.5.1. Province-wide test written by every student

4.5.2. Overall Grade 3s achieved above board and provincial results


4.5.2.1. Reading and Writing is only done by English stream for Grade 3
4.5.2.2. QUESTION: Do staff have access to individual results?
4.5.2.2.1. Yes, but are not able to see the specific questions, but achievement by topic area
4.5.2.3. QUESTION: Do students do practice tests?
4.5.2.3.1. We familiarize students with the format so that it isn't completely foreign, but the test
content is covered by curriculum across Grades 1-3
4.5.3. Grade 6s achieved well above board and province across all categories
4.5.3.1. QUESTION: Why do results differ across schools?
4.5.3.1.1. Socio-economic factors, demographics, and timing of testing all potentially influence
results. Smaller schools may have smaller populations that also create more variability
in outcomes
4.5.3.2. QUESTION: Does EQAO drive resourcing for schools across the board?
4.5.3.2.1. It is one small factor across multiple measures that help to assess needs and
4.5.4. QUESTION: What does staff do to adapt their teaching methods to address gaps in EQAO
achievement?
4.5.4.1. Teachers in grade groupings discuss results and how we can continue to improve, including
better targeting lower achieving groups
4.5.5. QUESTION: Do IEP students skew results?
4.5.5.1. Those data points are considered and certain students may receive an accommodation or
exception for writing the test
4.5.5.2. Exceptions are rarely granted and will be followed up with by Superintendents
4.6. Ladybug demonstration
4.6.1. Allows anything to be quickly projected on a screen
4.6.2. Cliffwood has 3 today, but would like to have enough for all classrooms
4.6.3. Teachers that have it use it everyday
4.7. Need a parent rep for the CCAC Committee

4.8. QUESTION: In the eblast, you raised concerns about U-turns and traffic. Can we change bus timing to help
alleviate some of the traffic?
4.8.1. Central busing routes have very strict timings, so there isn't really any flexibility
4.9. Because of addition of Ms. Crawford, we have received an additional 1/3 prep teacher (being shared with
Beverly Glen and Dallington). Currently interviewing and hoping to announce a new staff member shortly.

5.1.1. Graduation Celebration for Grade 5/6 students:
5.1.1.1. 74 students graduating this year: $1,850
5.1.1.2. DECISION: Colin Ryckman moves to allocate up to $1,850 to support graduation celebrations
for Grade 5/6 students. Julie Kwok seconds. Motion is carried
5.1.2. Classroom allocations:
5.1.2.1. $10 for each French students, $7.50 for each English student, F/T prep $150, H/T prep $75
5.1.2.2. $4,088 total for this year
5.1.2.3. DECISION: Colin Ryckman moves to allocate $4,088 towards classroom allocations at $10 per
French student, $7.50 per English student, and lump sums of $150 per F/T prep teacher, and
$75 per H/T prep teacher, with funds to be used by Jan 31, 2017. Heba Osman seconds.
