Activity
1. Focus and Review
10 points
Description
Who can give me an example of a cause and effect? *waits for
answers* Great! So if I drop my water bottle and water spills on the
ground, what would be the cause and what would be the effect? *waits
for answers* Good, so my cause is something that has happened to
create a reaction which is known as the effect. Today well be reading
a book together where you will need to recall at the end causes and
effects.
2. Statement of Objective
for Student

During Teacher Input, you are responsible for EXPLICITLY
TEACHING the objective you have selected.
During this time the book will be read, there will be several turn and
talks in order to recap what is happening and to identify cause an
effects they notice. At the end of the book the teacher will use a cause
and effect chart to model how students should go about recalling their
own information.
3. Teacher Input

That was such a good book with so many cool things that happened.
One of my favorite things that happened was ________, which made
_____ happen. So ______ would be my cause. I need to write that
under my cause list. _____ Would be the effect of that, so I write it
under effect. I also remember _______ happening. (etc.)
Good readers pay attention to what is happening in the book, that way
we can recall, understand, and tell other people about it with no
problem!

in the book and allows the students to figure out which is the effect
and which is the cause. Students will turn and talk to a partner to
figure this out and then we will come back together as a class.
5. Independent Practice

Students will be given a cause and effect graphic organizer and will
