Interview reflection
For my interview I chose to interview, three people at different stages of
life. The first person that I had the opportunity to interview was my company
manager, second was my sixth grade sister, and lastly was my eleventh
grade sister. From these three interviews, I can clearly conclude that the
stage in life in which all these individuals found themselves in life dictated
how they viewed the concept of assessment. As expected multiple answers
were given for each question as well as some mutual similarities. From these
interviews, I also learned that the perception of assessment is not a positive
one. All of the interviewees expressed a dislike for assessment and concerns
of how assessment is implemented.
One thing that did not surprise me was the answers of the two students.
The two students gave similar answers of how they viewed assessment,
since they are both presently enrolled in school they both experience the
concept of assessment more closely. The both reported to think of homework
and testing as the first thing they thought when assessment was mention.
Another thing that did not surprise me was that all three interviewees had
the same answer when asked about the purpose of assessment in schools,
all of them answered similarly. They all believe that the purpose of
assessment is to evaluate, place, and grade how well someone is doing in
school. In the other hand, one thing that really surprised me was how
differently all three preferred to be assessed, each of them had a different
opinion. The company manager preferred to be assessed verbally, one
student preferred to be assessed with projects, the other student reported
group testing to be her preferred method. Another thing that took me by
surprise was that all three had a different idea of how old the average person
is when they are first assessed. They all reported different ages, ranging
from 4-18 years old. I was able to notice a trend with these three responses,
the younger the interviewee was the older they thought one had to be when
the first received an assessment.
By the end of this course, I expect to learn the keys of assessment. I
hope to be fluent in constructing appropriate and affective assessments that
are inclusive and relevant for all students. Another goal that I intend to
achieve is making sure assessment in my lessons aligns with curriculum
objectives. I have seen that I need further improvement in this particular
area of my lesson planning. Lastly, I also hope to be able to generate
meaningful assessments for students, as I conducted my interviews I noted

that all my interviewees have a negative approach when it comes to

assessment. My hope is that by the end of the semester I learn many tools
for improving students enthusiasm and involvement regarding assessment.
